I would say its probably the best trail quad. Its not a 450 so its obviously not as fast and 450s, i would guess have better suspension but both of those things can be enhanced with 450 parts. You will be satisfied and i dont think you will get many replies to this post. Some people dont like the comfortness of the seat on the dvx version but i think its ok but the ltz and kfx are more comfortable. Very reliable quad.

Yeah the dvx seat sucks but I like the looks so I put up with it. Other than that no complaints. Power is great through the powerband. I just got sick of not keepin up with the 450's so I beefed it up. I've never had a single problem with the quad. Ive only had it for one season though.

LOL, funny you say not many people will reply, you would think one would be offended ,but for the reason Im asking ,its a great thing to know z owners really do like their quads.

i agree, i have no complants with my kfx400, but like they mentioned its not a 450 and ur not going to keep up with a 450 without some mods, dependable quads, ride height is higher, and they have reverse making them awsome for trail riding, plenty of power, i bought mine stock and ran it it hare scrambles against 450's and did good but once i started mx the power difference was noticable, i droped some teeth on the sprockets, piped it, hotcams, and a suspention overhall and now i can keep up with the big boys on the straights! you wont be disapointed!

i don't like the lack of low end torque, the tippy feeling it sometimes has, and its kind of a pain to work on. other than that, its a great riding, very smooth quad. its very nice on long trail rides.

I dont think its bad to work on at all. Unlike the 450s you can get to the spark plug without any problems. Pipless what kind of dual exhaust is that? I got the LTE dual exhaust its sweet!

I remember reading Dirtwheels, when they gave the Z400 a bigger carb, They felt it took away some low end power compared to eariler model with smaller carb, Any imput on this?

I would imagine having dual pipes takes away from the bottom end with less backpressure.

my buddys have a 03 and a 04 and i have a 05, i dont think they lack any power for a 400, i have trouble keepin the front end down in 3rd gear on the track, but you cant compare a 400 to a 450, if your gonna do alot of tail riding the z's are a perfect fit, thats what they were designed for, but if your gonna do mx and all track ridin id get a 450 cause if you get a 400 youll end up like me and be upgrading it to keep up with them 450's

Great power ,gets alot better with mods than you,d think .Bulletproof motor, only thing Id change would be the chain tighter.
