so my dad wants some bonding time and he figured why not get a quad to go riding with me. he can use the clutch and is gonna be a solid rider. he used to ride dirtbikes back in the day so im not worried about skill. im thinking a 400 just because of reliability and their just fun. the only problem is price. i found some beautiful ones for 1800 2000 but there '02 400ex's so they dont have reverse and my dad made it clear that reverse is a selling point. today we went and looked at an '04 raptor 660 it might be a little much but it was only $2000. i dont mind the idea cause i get to ride it when he isnt :D it was fairly clean but im just doubting their reliability. also were going to go look at 3 ltz400's this weekend. any other suggestions cause the faster he gets a quad the faster i get to steal it

Questioning a Yamaha's reliability? Pff. You should stay in the Honda family, Yamaha power would be way to much for you and your dad. :p

the 660 is junk IMO. The z400 is a real nice quad. Ive rode a few including a fully worked one and stock one and they both are pretty nice. Look for an 05 400ex. Ive seen a few for 2500 before if he can swing that

Well, what kind of riding does he do? Or will he do. If its trails go with a utility. 03 and older i believe has tranny problems for the 660.

if u wanna replace intake valves and pay to adjust the valves every time but thats just my .02 the ex's are easy to adjust and of course a honda=reliability in the long run less maintence and not a too aggressive bike

hes gonna be doing trails. a utility is still an option but there arent many good ones in our price range right now ($1800-$2300). hes basing most of his info off of me and my sister's boyfriend. i ride with her boyfriend all the time. he has an arctic cat 650 v2 the things a monster but i end up riding just as well as him on my 300ex. i think we decided against the 660 because of its size. the trails we do are fairly easy but theres a few rocky hills that are tough and 2 puddle/ponds that are too deep for my quad so i get towed. neither of us know how much riding we will be doing either

Can I get some of what your smokin? 450 for under $2500 all day long? Just because you saw one under $2500 and it was beat to hell or it had issues doesn't mean you find them all day long. If your friend got an LTR for $1800, he got a great deal. I would like to see some adds of these 450's you can get for under 2500 all day long.

I think your spot on with the ex, you can keep it mild or go wild. Ether way it’s a great choice. With basic maintenance it will run for ever. Easy to ride and it can perform quite well even as a stock bike.

Go with the Z400/KFX400! One of the best trail quads that doesn't require too much maintenance (cough 450 cough).

My dad's got an Outlander 800.... we go trail riding alot together during the summer and it's nice to have a utility with you with a box haha, keep your water, camera, gopro hero, snacks, supplies with you! Though doesn't ride very quickly which pisses me off lol

Not that any of us are dealers but a guy told me In Ohio that 07 were going for 1900. To think ya pay $7200 new at the dealers. Man. also I bought an 07 last year for $3500. It had $1500 worth of extra's on it, so they way I looked at it I paid trade in price $3000 and I Paid 500 bucks for the extra's. Ck kkb.com & find trade in values for what ur looking for & thats what u should pay if u want to feel u got a good deal.

400ex, 300ex or a honda 4x4, end of story, the raptor is a POS! the z 400 and kfx's are piles as well if you ask me... i've never rode or owned a quad that has went through the same amount of hell as a 400ex has and still come out running..

hmm idk where your coming with that i always find parts cheap and plentiful, a friend of mine just scored a powerbomb header for $30. my fmf exhaust looked brand new and i got it for $60, also got a nice set of banshee shocks for free and they were a worthwhile upgrade. just sayin:rolleyes:

Still the warriors are out dated, heavy, and dont handle very well compared to the 400ex, ltz400 or even the 300ex and Raptor 250.

hell ya i almost even bought a 400 stroker motor with maybe 20 hours on it for $600 and a nice hmf for $100. theres always people fartin out warriors and selling extra aftermarket parts on yfm350.com
also with the mods i have on my quad, it handles night and day better than stock. i actually like it better than my 400ex that i had

According to your sig the only thing you have on the warrior is banshee shocks.. not gonna make that much of a difference in handling. Just sayin.
