ok i was wondering what would be best for MX racing! i have 14 front sprocket and a 36 rear sprocket on my bike right now. i have ran one race with them and it seem to be ok. i got the 18 rear mx's and 20 inch front mx's. i was just wondering if it would be better to run a 38 rear instead of the 36?? would you want more acceleration than speed??? please help!
thanks

it all depends on the track and the condition on the track to what gearing you want, but right now it seems as if you have a pretty good gearing for it, but with a 38 you will see more acc. and less top speed, with with the lower rear sproket less acc. and more top speed.

well, if you are only using 2-3 gears you are running on a pretty short track so i would regear back to stock then go from there and make some adjustments.

gear it so that on the fastest part of the track you hit 5th gear......but if the track is so technical that you only go 35mph i mean dont gear it so you have to be in 5th to do 35

I dropped 2 teeth off my rear sprocket for MX racing and it works awesome...

I dropped 2 in the back and it works great. I kept the front stock and somtimes move up to a 16 tooth when I am really hooking up so i don;t pulla wheelie every time i shift.

It depends on the track and conditions. Last year I ran a 15-37 and it seems to work pretty well. You will just have try different combos and see what works best. :)

I havent raced much just with all the guys but i use stock gearing and it works ok, i think im going to drop a gear on the front to a 14, for a bit more accel. since i only race one track i might get a 16 if its a good day and my tires and the track agree.

I ran stock gearing last season on 20's and thought it was slightly to high. I think when I drop to the 18's she should be close to where I like it.
