That's a really good question! I'm currently trying to create an advertisement for DW with pictures I took, but whenever I try to erase the background in PrintShop Pro Publisher, it doesn't work. I've tried to erase it in MS Paint also, but that's a real pain & doesn't look professional at all! If anyone knows a good software package to create ads like the ones in DW, please let me know too!

Thx,

Trish

Send the to me..Ill see what I can do. You use Magnetic lasso tool or magic wand. Post them and ill do it. Or ask Striker49 because hes a little better than me.

Its called Photoshop 7. What i do it cut it in sections. Outlike like half the quad, then finish the selection by including the background..

(I did a really quick job just to give you an example.. )

Select where the blue line is, but obviously take your time and do it correctly.. lol.

And a finished version, with a few effects.

Or, no effects.

i use the background eraser...i put it on find edges and just do the outline and the small parts inside....it's works ok as long as the color of the quad and the background arent the same

Hondafox400, how did you do those affects?

01-25-2003, 05:07 PM
Once you have the quad on the white BG, use the magic wand and select the quad. Paste it onto a new image, and use blending effects.. (I used drop shadow and bevel/emboss)

hondafox400 some of you pipe is gone at the end. a chunk is like taken out lol. good job though

01-25-2003, 05:29 PM
Yea, that happened when I moved it to the new image, because the end of it was white from the shine..

I just simply outline whatever I want like this:

-Select around the outside image roughly with the Polygon Lasso Tool
-Inverse the selection
-Erase everthing that is selected
-Then zoom in, usually around 500%, and slowly take my Eraser tool and get rid of what is left around the edges. It is time consuming, and you have to have a fairly steady hand or you will find yourself hitting the Undo button several times like me, but the results are very good. The Eraser fades alot better than if you used the Magic Wand Tool and just erased.

Then you get something like this with alot of work:

I got into it all about 6-7 months ago with Photoshop 5 at school. Now I have PS 7, awaiting PS 8's release in fall of this year, and most of you have seen my capabilities.
I learn something new everytime I open up PS anymore...just take the sig I had yesterday and the one there now. Big improvement, doesnt even look as if the same person did it.

PS has limitless opertunities, just depends on your style and all the stuff you have found within the program. Even the smallest things make a big difference in your pics...if you are using some blending options, dont be afraid to pull down one of the drop-down menus and scroll through the different options to see what each does b/c each will make one type of image stand out more than the other.

:D

BTW, here is what my old sig looked like. :o

Word. The key to Photoshop is experimenting. I can sit for 1 or 2 hours working on one image. Not really getting anywhere, just seeing what effects do what. Thats the only downside of Photoshop. They dont really explain what the filters do, it's all trial and error.

Any other tips or cool things i could try out on Photoshop? Ive mostly been playing around with blending options, how can i import textures for text. For exampl, pretend i want a diamond plate aluminum as texture for some text. If i have a picture of diamond plate aluminum, how can i import it into PS to make a new texture to use? Im really liking this program. Thanks

Just keep playin round with different things in the program and have fun with it.

Dunno bout importing textures, havent messed with it yet.

01-26-2003, 08:41 AM
First, make the diamond plate texture. Then, select it, and hit "Edit - Define Pattern". When you want to add it to text, in blending options, go to Pattern Overlay, and choose your new pattern

Here is what I worked on til 4am this morning. Took me 3 hours to get all the images and do all the prep work on em.

The "interfaces" look funny, but in actual size (1024x768) there are scan lines running across it that is in proper perspective.

I did a WP of all our main games. Came out decent I think. :p

when i try to erase a backround i still get it all choppy and uneven.... Am i using the wrong tool? Any one got any tips? Thanks

Fluid400
01-31-2003, 11:02 AM
The choppy and uneven lines are mostly due to the low resolution of the image you are working with.
POOR QUALITY BITMAPS/JPEG'S

Everything done in Photoshop 7
Let me know what you think

Make sure you have the "antialiased" box checked.. Its on the top toolbar.
