View Full Version : 400ex POWERBOMB HEADER???????? will it help????

i have a 400ex... ported polished, 440 kit with 12.1 JE piston... with standerd hot rodes crank.. with a fmf powercore 4 slip on thats been cut down 4inchs to be a shorty... and im runing a 185 MJ and a 45 pilot jet... i just ordered a FMF powerbomb MX header... it says your sapose to gain 10% flow... i got it off of motorcyle-superstore.com the guy told me hes ran them on his 450's and ran dyno runs and they dont help at all.... he said its not worth buying... BUT I WANA KNOW HAS ANYONE GOT THE POWERBOMB HEADER AND FOR SHURE NOTICED THE DIFFERANCE IN POWER AND HOW MUCH WOULD YOU SAY???? thanks alot for the help guys

I put one on my 660 raptor. It wasn't rip your arms off the bars power gain but it was noticeable. The bottom end was alot snappier. Sounded pretty good too

I heard they dont make them for the 400ex or z400 cause i was gonna get one it might help but then it might not if it did they would advertise it for the 400ex or Z400 dont know of anybody thats has it.

yea they make them for both the z and 400ex.... have been for a few years... i have mine on the way... but i wanted to see if anyone that has one if they noticed a differance in power.. they say its sapose to increas flow 10% but that could just be all talk to get you to buy....

I have one and can notice the power in the mid range especially in 2nd and 3rd gear!!

they make 2 diffrent ones for the 400ex... a MX and a SX the MX is maid for more topend power and the SX is for low to mid range... do you know wich on you have? i figured it would have to improve power so i ordered one and it should be here in a couple days... but when i ordered it on the phone the guy i was talking to ordering it off of said man i wouldnt buy it ive dyno my yz450 with it and it didnt make a drop more power its not worth buying... but thats a 450 and this is completly different... i know the mid pip going back to the slip on is almost a 1/4 inch bigger and they come together alot sooner so it has to help... even if it moves my power around ill be happy... i put a stage 2 cam in and it killed my topend speed hard core... i went from being able to do 80 to 83mph to being able to do 70 if im lucky

they make on for the 400ex. my friend bought on for his, and he has the hmf sport muffler. he just got the 426 kit with a 13 to 1 compression. rode it with stock header and with the bomb. im not gunna say its the most power, but it will help. the two collector tubes are shortened, compared to stock. this will help your beast breath easy. also, if you put it on, i suggest wrapping it with an exaust header wrap. usually around 20 dollars. this will help keep the pipe cool on your legs, and help keep the hot exhaust flowing staright out the back.

all together he has the power bomb, hmf muffler, 416 kit, cam, 450r carb, 13 to 1 piston, stage 2 rev box, and port and polish.

all together, i would say go with it if it a cheaper option for you than buying another bran after market header. i think it is worth the $225 dollas after shipping for it, compared to $226 + ship for the header from hmf, and $250 plus send in the old slip on to put in a new inlet.
