• '05 450r Carb
• ESR Airbox Eliminator Kit
• Dynojet Kit

Anything I should know before tearing the old carb and airbox out?

when it comes to jetting with a dyno jet kit, just remember the sizes arent the same as keihins...example, a dynojet 162 main is equivelent to a keihin 180 main.

Anyways, the dynojet kit will get you almost perfect if you follow the directions. and its close enough to never worry about jetting again.

when eliminating the airbox, if your using your rubber intake tube still, you can pull the rubber seal out of the box, where the snorkel and intake tube join to the box.....Then you can leave your snorkel installed and use it to support the intake tubes....

Alright, cool. I'll look into that when installing it. I have a stupid question, too. How does the hot start plug go in? Like what order do the parts go in?

So, for the hot start, it goes the little metal thing, spring, plastic piece, rubber piece and then the metal pin thing? Sorry, I don't know what these things are called haha.

sounds like you got it figured out. then just plug the rubber end with some rtv or silicone or something and you will be set. if you had the cable you could use it lol. steve

So, just to make sure, the hot start parts go in like this, correct? Then you fill the end up with RTV then screw it on or what?

Also, what do you guys think I should try for jetting? The Dynojet kit I got is for a 450r so I don't know if that matters.

I would say that whatever you are at now for the jetting, find the conversion and go up 3 sizes on the jets for the 450 carb. so if you are at a 155 keihin now, that is around a 142 dj so go to a 148 dj. your 400 jets would fit in the 450 carb also. the 450 kit may not have jets that small in it, I am not sure. I used all of my jets from the kit i had with the dj kit i had. Actually i used my 172 keihin that i had left from originally buying them to jet for my 416. It was a bit lean from the 170 to the 172 but i just put my lid on with some holes for the winter. three sizes will get you close to being on the rich side at least. let me know what you found, I will be finalizing my stuff in may when i get home for the summer. i am hoping to just take the lid off and have it be perfect for the summer temps.

My only problem is that I don't know what jetting I am currently running with the stock carb. I bought it with the pipe and already jetted. Would I be able to tell by looking at the jets?

b, you should be able to, it will be stamped on the main somewhere. I would say you are around a 155 then. steve

Gonna see if I can't get all my stuff on today. I've been super busy lately. The 450r kit goes from a 120 to a 155, nothing in between. So I guess I'll try the 155 and hope for the best. If not, I may have spent $40 on a jet kit that I won't even use haha.

if it doesnt work, sell it. lol. I am running into that with my dj set i have now, nothing is quite right again and i may have no use for it anymore. steve

Yeah, I only got it because that's all the place I ordered my ESR kit had. I should have just got a kit from Jets-R-Us. If I can't get it right with the DJ kit, I'll probably just get the 400EX kit from Jets-R-Us. Dynojet is actually local to me. If I could figure out which ones I needed I could probably just go down and get them for cheap.

Can't wait to get it all dialed in and take it out.

That looks awesome, are there actual power gains to be had or just quicker throttle response with this swap?

Well, between the bigger carb and eliminating the airbox, I'd say it gave me a substantial increase in power. More fuel + more air = more power is usually the case for 4 strokes. Haven't really had a chance to test it out, still need to get the jetting right.

Can't wait to hear what it's like with a stock bore. So how much did you run you for everything required to convert to a 450r carb?

The carb was $80 shipped with the throttle, ESR kit was $70 I believe (+$10 for the prefilter), Dynojet kit was $40. I was going to get the Keihin kit from Jets-R-Us for $30 but I decided to just get the DJ kit with everything else from the same place. Then other little things that I had laying around. The radiator hose (the hose the kit comes with is too short, it's a 450r kit, not a 400 kit) and 1" steel for the bracket. Oh and the hotstart plug was like $20.
