So i got this bike ive been building for a while now and ive been in the process of putin back together so i got a lil curious about what year of clutch set up was in it so i took off the cover and to my surprise the bike was already outfitted with a hinson clutch basket assembly so i disassemble it and it and its a 89 type clutch lifter but inbetween it and the pushrod is a ball bearing that looks like it was milled down to have 2 flat sides i havnt found a pic or schm on it that shows anything like it any help to find out what this thing is please help

I believe that rides between the push rod and pancake bearing.. sounds like it is wore and needs replaced..

it kinda sounds as tho your setup is using the 89 update assembly in conjunction with a 87-88 pushrod en 86 ball. i cant imagine why tho. unless there is a fair amount of wear on the actuator arm itself.

the 89 uses the same push rod as the 86 but minus the ball. the 87-88 push rod assembly is a different length altogether but doesnt use the ball. kinda weird. :huh

I just went through this issue with mine. There are two different setups. One has the the rod, ball, and lifter, (86 style). the other has the rod and lifter. You can tell a difference easily if you have a manual for your R. It has a picture with the two different setups. the easy way to tell is by the lifter. The 89 style has needle bearings on it. The 86 does not.

Pressure plate is different as well.
