Free Movie Converters?

I'm looking to convert some of my video files to AVI. Right now, I have an array of files ranging from MP4, MKV, you name it that I'd like to swap over to AVI.

I had the free trial of PRISM Converter but that ran out and re-installing it over and over again isn't allowing me to restart the 30 day trial period. And a lot of the other ones that I have downloaded only convert 3-5% of the file before stopping and asking me to upgrade to the full version.

Anyone know of any legit free ones for download?

I've used it several times to convert AV's to whatever format for my iphone. Took a few hours but works perfect and you wouldnt even notice that it was meddled with at all.
