I'm looking to buy either a treadmill or an elliptical to increase my cardio with. Which would be better? My doctor claims a good cardio program will help with my asthma problems. Any and all suggestions appreciated, thanks.

In all honesty, get a concept 2 rower. But if you can't and those are your only two choices, than a elliptical because its easier on your knees. OR get a spinning bike

I'll have to check those out. Kinda leaning towards the elliptical, because of bad knees-joints.

Elliptical because unlike most bikes these days, you are moving your arms and legs at the same time creating a better burn.

for 1200 bucks I'm keeping my treadmill & riding my bicycle. That 1200 is going into my quad. Those motowoz shocks are what gonna help my knees out.

go over to racer x's virtual trainer website

all the pro's trainers including James Stewart, Nicco Izzi and many others swear by the concept 2 rowers

we have them at our school gym and it is a great workout

try a 30 min or 10000meter row and see how much harder you work than 30 minutes on a elliptical or bike or treadmill

Yeah the Concept 2 is one of the best cardio machines out there. I really like it, and I would highly recommend it.

I don't mean to jack the thread but JRP are you sure that you rowed over 20 k in under an hour at a 2:01? because at a 2:01 split a 20k alone would take an an hour 20 minutes and 40 seconds. I've done a half-marathon which is 21100 meters and that took me about 1:36:16 or so and about a 2:16-2:18 split, which is significantly slower than your 2:01 split. I don't mean to call you out or anything I was just wondering. My friend and I are really into rowing and train together a lot so I really like talking about it. What other distances, intervals and stuff do you do?

To be honest I think one machine is like only eating bologna for the rest of your life. Gotta mix it up, you need muscle confusion.

I'd recommend p90x. Everyone has different aches, pains, problem areas, but the solution is always the same. Stretch, lift, cardio, eat well.

I for one don't care for the Eliptical's. I don't know if I don't have the stride set right or what, but it actually hurts my knees after 10-15 mins.

I'm with you on that. None of them feel natural to me. It's like my stride is too short for the range of motion in the machine, which causes my knees and back to hurt after only a couple minutes. Not a burning sensation like I'm getting a workout, but rather a "get-the-****-off-or-throw-your-back" sensation.:p

Stair-steppers always get my heart rate up quick, especially going at decent pace. They don't do anything for upper body though.

the concept 2 rower and an X-bike. this is the bike that Ricky Carmicheal trained with. i have used them alot and they are awsome. the bars move like your riding a real bike and the bars have there own tention adjuster.

A Heavy Bag and a set of gloves. Guaranteed to snap your body in shape.

Try it, for about 150 bucks you can get some decent everlast equip that will last long

Just picked up a Nortictrack E7 elliptical. Seems like a nice machine.

P90x no need to waste money on these peices of equipment which you will use for a few months (at best). then they will collect dust or hang your drying riding gear on. You can download p90 on different sites for free. It's tough but great for strength cardio and flexability.

p90x or insanity workouts hands down... insanity is GREAT for cardio, balance, and core... p90x u will build more muscle and need some weights insanity you need nothing but about 10ft area...
