thinking of trading my 450r for pred 500 need opions

Well mine is a bone stock 05 honda 450r his is the 03 predator 500 complete rebuild and installed update that came out in 05 for preddys tranny . the problem is I know 000000 about these quads , so what kind of issues problems etc thes 2003 preddys have other than tranny and that shouldnt be a issue because he installed a update for the tranny??? Chime in let me know and no I cant post this on my usual 450r site I would be hung by my toes ! Are these bikes reliable basically???????Also I am 6'4" how are these quads for taller riders??Also I do nothing but tight woods riding how do these quads do on such trails????

Your speed will be close to the same. The Predator does fit us big boys better, I found the Honda 450 to be very cramped.
I have had ZERO issues with my pred, it's an 06....

We owen a 06 500 outlaw. I have rode only one 450 and I am happy with the 500 that my girlfriend rides, it appears to be very reliable. But I think I like the 450 better cause it reved faster and had better top end. It just seemed faster. The 500 is way more controlable for her.

hmmm I would buy the 03 for the right price and IMO it would be a good quad for you based on size BUT the other side of the coin is you owuld be better off selling the 450r and buying the other bike. The 450r (esp 05) isnt a great bike but it does hold its resale better.

I've ridden a buddies Predator and a 450r and about the biggest difference I noticed was the predator was a bit heavier. Not bad but enuf to notice

well I own a 2007 preditor 500 that was a dealer demo model and I'll you this its probably the torqueist quad I have ever been on. I've only ever rode one 450 and that was for about 5 mins. so I really cant say either or I would own more than the other. I love my 500 thuo.

My girlfriend and my sister both realy like their 06 500 pred's also, I personaly like the faster reving of the 450's and my 08 525 is incredible.

Keep the 450R... No offense to you pred guys but in my opinion they are absolutely horrible.

I have ridden two Predators in my life. One a bone stock 04, and the other an 05 with a 560 big bore, cams, high compression, and porting. (Kid works at a Polaris dealer and knows his stuff, quad runs cherry.)

The stock one had an HMF full exhaust.. was a complete turd. I'm not even kidding when I say my 400ex felt almost as fast. The main difference is the predator is rev-happy and had more torque. But it was way slower then what I expected.
Now for the 560.. the thing had snot, really broad power range, but it STILL didn't feel as fast as people make them out to be.

I've ridden a couple bolt on 450's, and they're way faster then even that 560 and in my opinion, much more fun to ride.

Not to mention the pred's have awkward ergo's and are HEAVY.

03's also had a quirky suspension set up.

In my opinion, you would be an idiot if you traded. No offense. There's a reason he wants to trade for your 450r... and 03 predators are only worth around 1800-2000 these days if that.

lol i think dmc is full of **** i had a fully built 450r with a 480 kit. hi comp piston, cams. exhaust, ported and polished, a arms, axel, stem bars...u name it, i had it and i traded it for my 05 tld and cash thats completely rebuilt. wit a slip on and pro com rev box. n intake and it blows the doors off my 450


so if u say ur 400ex is faster....you must have a plane engine strapped to it

I am very impressed with my wife's outlaw 500 but I have a hard time thinking its faster than any 450. I would prefer the outlaw/predator over the 450 because of reverse.

No way a 400ex can touch pred 500, I can run with or in front 450s all day. Stock to stock. If you get the suspension dialed in to your riding style and weight, it is a good ride. Im six foot tall and i dont feel pretty good riding. The only problem is the seat kinda makes you sit forward a little. Id doesnt bother me though

I suppose next you're going to tell us that your LT1 Formula can blow the doors off of an LS1 car?

I'm not saying Predator 500's are the best thing since sliced bread, but I know I can beat a 400ex without any problems.

Well I traded for a polaris outlaw 525 . This thing is faster then my honda 450r BUT the 450r just feels faster due to ergos and weight . That is and was the best thing about the 450r that I miss , just flat out riding it was a blast , very comfy and light , you could sling that thing anywheres , plus the honda was instant acelleration from any gear. The thing I like the most about the KTM525 IRS is the ride , it soaks up bumps , and eats ruts like its nothing , that along with the clearence .The macine flat out hauls the mail. Thats is the best vs I can do coming from both machines

the honda will probably last alot longer and resale is better, for some reason the predator can't keep it's value, grab the honda.

LMAo no way would I ever say the 450r is junk , every time i jumped on it it ran and never left me stranded , did they fall short of the 450 class bikes in some nice features yes , but imho the honda was designed as a back to basics , no extra fluff race bike and it is all what is was designed to be .

Your point...I've jumped on my pred any time and it never left me stranded. the 450rs come set up poorly. The shocks suck. predators atleast some with fox and other 450s come with decent set up shocks. and honda still hasnt come out with a 450r with reverse. i would never go back to a honda after having my predator

Your probably the only person who thinks hondas are junk. And actually they are one of the fastest 450 along with being the most reliable.Look at the races, almost all of the quads are hondas. Maybe you just dont know how to ride? So you though a 480 would make up for that. Or you just never had one??:rolleyes:

k go to trx450r.org and look up 480rhonda. thats my old quad. trust me i kno how to ride. now your just talking **** dude i wouldnt talk...ur still stuck on a lil 400ex. i did everything on that quad my self. the only thing hondas are good for, is beatng the **** out of them and if u wanna get specific...predators arent even in the same class as 450rs

Handling could of had everything to do with shock adjustments, what is cheap on it? I agree that not every person can sit on the seat and it not fit comfortable on them 100%. I think until you own one you can't judge how long they last, if you do all the recommended maintenance they will last.
