1st gear dont work help please

ok guys 03 z400 i was riding a wheelie in 1st gear when my chain poped off and caught on the swing arm and now first gear dont work. the bike does not make any noise, clutch does not feel bad, all other gears work great...even reverse still works. feels like when you click it into first that it is still in netural bike revs with no issues or other noise..any ideas on how hard or how much to fix this myself? thanks gusy

have you found any metal on the drain plug or in the filter?

looks normal..nothing shinny or pieces floating around from what i can see with out splitting the cases...any suggestions before i do split them?

ya ,if your spliting the cases put in a +4 stroker crank , never be a better time fot it

unless you can pull the parts off ebay ,yes

You might of broke the shift fork or 1st gear might of broke. I broke 3rd on mine and it would go into 3rd but is was like netural. its a project to do. If you have a mananl it will tell you how to do everything

i have no problem splitting the cases...just worried that its gaunna cost like $400-$500? what would be your ball park estimate for parts?s..and i have a very good manual

no not that high , 1st gear is like $56

keep in mind if your doing all the work you just saved $300 to $400 in labor.

Split the case before you get the gear to see if you need a new shift fork to. When my gear went out it missed the shift fork up to. I think it was a little over 100 for everything

your bike is slow, raptor slow, newly aquired z is slow, banshee slow, 125 slow, just slow all around! let me know if you get first gear fixed!

dont hate! your z gets a twin...the stable is getting awefully full...maybe an addition is in the future?

ok guys got a little more problem with this bike...now it will only shift into 2nd and reverse... i can not get it into 3rd...im thinking maybe the shift star or linkage now? as soon as i get my other bike running today or tomarro, ill split the case on this 440ex killer!

Why would you keep riding it when it's broken.You have probably just cost yourself more money.Just pull it out and tear it down.

if you don't have a service Manuel i would get one.You can do anything with it.Very detailed.

i have 2 service manuals..lol the first one got so much use the pages started falling out!
