I haven't used a synthetic, but my steel cable just bound up (taking out a few gears in the process). I put on a ratchet strap for now (minus the ratchet); it works good and won't bind. If it breaks I may upgrade to a tow strap, but so far it's holding fine.

I have heard that the synthetic ones can start to fray from the constant raising and lowering when plowing. I know people who love the synthetics but take them off for the winter to plow and use metal ones. steve

I have a rope cable. it has lasted very well. i have a 7' blade.the rope cables come with a seath.just make shure it dosent move up the cable i taped mine ..mine broke once last year, because i didnt keep the sheath,down.. .with all the snow around here its getting a work out. another plus for rope when it breaks it wont hurt any one.
