I am nearing the end of the Blaster build for my son and am looking at doing a rear brake upgrade what are the opinions on doing a Banshee upgrade on the Blaster? Is it a pain in the but to do or is it easier and cheaper to just order a conversion kit. I run lasers and turret presses so making a bracket or two would be easy

What type of hydraulic brake conversions do you guys run just looking for a few opinions???

you can use just about anything. a friend of mine used rear brakes from a 200x 3wheeler. I used a front caliper from a cbr600 sportbike and used the rear mastercylinder from the same bike.. just weld a bracket to the frame to hold the mastercylinder. then make a bracket to hold the caliper to the swingarm.. banshee brakes would be good.

the banshee setup is the trick (stay all Yamaha). Ill have mine done this next week im doing for my kids new bike build.

Ill post up some pics when it's installed.

Im having a swinger built too, using blaster back to the shock, then banshee round house carrier/axle/brake setup.

You get the extra width as well with the axle and you can pick up a complete axle for $100 and a used carrier is only $50. Rear brake setup is $50-75 with caliper.

use banshee. It is not that hard to convert.

Hey Dunatic,
I'm in the midst of a Blaster rebuild and enhancing a few things (like the brakes) What master cylinder did you use and is that a Blaster pedal in these pics? Got a Banshee rear brake set-up from pedal to caliper and I'm in the process of adapting the Banshee carrier to the Blaster swinger. This should be done soon.

For the pedal end, as I look at the master cylinder, I'm having a hard time finding a good spot to mount the cylinder so the plunger can connect to the foot pedal. I'd appreciate any suggestions you could give me.

Thanks
George

my pedal, master and caliper are all Banshee.

I welded the pivot boss and caliper mounts to the frame.

With the foot pegs in place (which I used a left side peg on the right side), I bent the pedal to fit around the peg.

Hey Dunatic,
Thanks for the help. As I look at your pedal and master cylinder, I can see where you mounted the pivot boss. Looks like you had to grind off some of the old junk from the frame to make room.
Those mounting tabs for the master cylinder, were they the existing stock heal guard mounts or did you add them too?

everything was custom

here in oregon, there are enough custom chassis builders (CG Performance, Dave Moore, Chassis Inc, Holeshot, Longhill, White Knuckle, etc.) that these pieces are readily available laser/cnc cut

Dunatic,

I wish I could say the same. I have 1 really good shop near me, Performance ATV but I'm doing this pretty much on my own - pockets aren't too deep. So yeah, I guess I'll have to work out those details myself and use the savings for the PC job when I get to it

Thanks Man

I just put Banshee rear stuff on my sons blaster. Used the stock footpeg and pedal. Cut and welded a Banshee radiator bracket on the back of the pedal and then welded tabs on the frame to mount the master. Works pretty good so far.

Hey Dave,

I'd love to see some pics. any chance you could post some up or email me some?

Here's what I ended up doing but the foot peg is fabbed from a left side blaster and a pivot boss off a Warrior:

The rear end started with a Banshee carrier but I found an '03 Blaster carrier and put that problem to bed:

I just got the engine into the frame this weekend and may get to test ride the mods next weekend if all goes well.
But this is how it looks with new plastic and primer all over the welds:

we are going YFZ450 swap on my g/f blaster now. Ive been using the mastercylinders on my 200x 3wheelers and like them alot. and they are super cheap.

Well after a little to much time on other projects I'm able to put time into the Blaster again. I've got a Banshee setup to put on I am wishing that we didn't get it powder coated so soon but when the price is right you got to take advantage of it. What I am wondering is are you guys using a left side Blaster peg on the right? Also how are you modifying the brake pedal or what one are you using. I will try and post a few pics soon the Blaster is looking good green frame and black a-arms and swinger.

Hey Hutchracer,

Yeah, I used the left side blaster peg on the right and welded the pivot boss from a Warrior right side pedal to it:

I had to weld some tabs from an old donor frame to the correct position on my blaster frame and supporting tabs for the Banshee rezzi as well:

If you go this route, be sure to tuck the rezzi ALL the way down into the crotch of the frame or you will interfere with the exhaust.

I wish I could give you some finished pics but I'm only just test riding my mods (this weekend?)

i found this out the hard way. after it was all powdercoated. I just swiveled mine inward over the top of the swinger and it's worked out fine (thank gawd)

Here's a few pics. Not very pretty just want to make sure everything works and then we're gonna tear it down and paint and all that. I stayed with the stock peg and location on the pedal. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a set of pro peg nerfs and wanted it to all swap over ok. Pic quality sucks when blown up this big, sorry. I just used some scrap that I welded nuts to the back of and welded it to the frame. I was a little scared about the lever I welded to the pedal being long. After bleading the brakes it seems to work fine though. We're taking it out for a ride next weekend and will see how it holds up. Prob tear it down and make it pretty after Christmas and all the parts have rolled in. I also used a Banshee carrier since i had one laying around. Thought it was gonna be ok, but now that it's in and all spacered up it looks like crap. So a 03+ carrier is on the list of parts to get.

I recomend using a 03 or newer blaster foot peg and pedal!!!! With my moded stock 94 pedal and peg i had only full brake with just a touch of the pedal. So i got a 03 foot peg with pedal and my brake worked better but i had to move the master cylinder. The 03 peg has the pedal boss behind the peg and frame...
