I'm probably not going to race as much any more. I enjoy helping my son more than riding myself. Plus, these mini's are kinda high maintenence LOL

that 250r is freakin sick!!! long live the 2 strokes!!!!

02-25-2010, 08:48 AM
Does it count when your son goes on vacation and you run his quad in the 200-240cc 2 stroke class and place 3 rd in heat and 4th in feature out of 8 quads? Not bad for a 86cc quad hualing 185 pounds.

Heck yes. Altho I only hit 1 AWORCS XC race and 1 National MX this year.
I have 3 national top 10 overall finishes (01-02-05)
I love my R!
I'll be 52 in a week. I think I need a slow stroke..:eek2:

this is my 89 250r, it was owned by chris borich and yes it freakin rips....i dont ride it to much anymore, vp gas gets expensive and i dont want to take the compression out of it. i just bought a crf450r, years ago you wouldnt catch me near a 4 stroke now...well the times have changed

I gave up my CR 250 when Ryan started Nationals as i am not into riding anything with more than 2 wheels.

Besides Ryan cant drive home yet when i crash my brains out.

I still run him down on our practice track, but this year he might have me beat on the Supermini.

Race results TBD

Thats a good one cheese!
I had a blast at the tumbleweed speedway TT behind the house on my kids too. I could pound out laps for hours out there. I just don't want to crack a swinger or frame with my 205 on it. My kids are both new to the sport and the first pismo trip I jumped on the daughters mongoose 90 and had my son follow me around a good sized track that we found. I kept going a little faster and after a while I pulled off and he was comfy and going at a great pace. Riding with our kids can really help them learn how to do it right alot faster.

Nice 450r airmobile.

I've told my wife I would love it if someone would have dads vs. dads on their kids mini quads.... I heard a MX track in OH did it last year but cant confirm that. If someone ever holds one, Im in on a TRX90! My daughter races XC my son wants to try a few MX and TT events this year. He tried Pine Lake last year @ 5yo. I LOVE to ride but dont get out much except to practice with my kids and an occasional CRA events. Ran CRA XC and MX back in the day.

I live for days like this now

A little track we used to play at had one about three years ago and it was a blast. Gives you a new respect for the kids on the smaller quads. I thought i was gonna tear something up or my self. About 8 dads on mins with their knees in the bars was a comedy of errors and glory. I got a huge TROPHY for winning and my son still gives me a hard time over the trophy with a big turkey on it.

I started out on a 200x three wheeler for two years and then went to a 250r. IF that does not tell my age then nothing does. I would still rather race a three wheeler any day, it took a lot more rider imput, i never was very good on it but i always had the biggest smile on my face when i came off the track!!! I guess that is what got me hooked on building parts for bikes!!! I have seen many changes through the years, i remember when works shocks first came out and they were the bomb! now look at what we have. Those were the good old days watching rodney gentry, gary denton and all the pros back then do battle!!!! The mickey thompson races were so cool !!! I have been around the sport longer than doug gust!!! belive it!!! now that is old!! juast a quick trip done memory lane.
P.S. THE ONLY WAY I WOULD RACE NOW IS IF YOU COULD TAKE A SMOKE AND DIET COKE BREAK AFTER EACH LAP!!!!! DAVE

I road-raced a Kawasaki ZX-6R back in the day in WERA. Traveled to Mich, Road Atlanta, ect. - Clocked at Road Atlanta in the speed trap on the back stretch at 168 mph. Wooohooo. I believe I was an "up-n-comer" but when I told my new wife (at the time) I watched a man die at Road Atlanta after hitting the bridge - She explained that I had bigger responsabilities and It was time to give it up. FUNSUCKER! LOL
I miss the adrenaline rush for sure!
I tried the whole quad racing last year once - Logan will never let me live down how slow I was! Thank goodness there are no posted lap times - cause I can still outrun him. :blah:

dang Dave I thought you were old but your makin me think maybe i am old:eek2: I started on atc110 modded out then went to 200x and won a couple of series in Fl on the stocker, then we went modified, placed high a few years on it, went to Loretta's was passing 2nd place rider in the main over 10 commandments and porcelin dropped out of spark plug (champion by the way) instantly locking my Powroll motor and during that time i got into the 250r's ran them for many years got series championships on it as well. as Dave said the 3-wheeler is an "art" thing and when we made the transition to the trx250r in 88 that was a big change for me, still got high places and series awards but much different riding. Rodney and the south FL crew would come up and run with us pretty regular. I still ride though but @ the track it's Coley's time, my dad gave me my time so inturn!!!! nowadays I just really enjoy making his stuff run great, and teaching others how to do things with motors I have learned over the years. It is really fun to teach somebody how to jet their own bike, at first they thing that it's gonna kill them but in the end it's second nature;)

my husband used to race a 250R back in the 80's, loved them quads! my son just moved out of the cvt 90 class and is going to the mod class using his dads quad (laeger with an rm 85 motor in it) so i decided i wanted to ride again and possibly do some local stuff for fun! So for valentines day i went and bought a 86 250R race ready for myself! (best present ever)My husband has an Ltr he just bought and wants to trade me quads now! told him Hell no!!

yea the oooollllldddd 250 r is still king in my book! i wish i had kept my 200 x it was a real cool bike. i do not think kids these days could ride them like they do the quads of today. hey my first three wheeler was a 185s remember those? i bought the little front wheel extenders man i thought i was something on that bike! I have two years and then i think i will try the over 50 class! at least once! do you think i could do it? dave

I still race once in a while on a YFZ450. I raced the +30 class at Summit Indoor this past weekend and did okay. I enjoy it but it takes too much time away from my daughters bike prep so I don't do it too often.

"I have two years and then i think i will try the over 50 class! at least once! do you think i could do it?"
This depends on a cpl things..
1) if they make a 50+ class (I'm presuming you meant a ATVMX)
2) if you show up.
Heck yes you can do it! Why wait? Just don't think your going to podium and all will be well. :)

WORCS has a +50 class, maybe the bike GNCC.
I really only know of Richard Kier that raced. He was 54. I suppose a 50+ class isn't needed. :(
I'll be 52 Sunday and look forward to puffing smoke on others in the 40+ class with my mighty 250R this year!

I'm 42 and will try to get some Stock B races in WORCS.

But like most others trying to keep the minis running is almost full time so it makes it hard to race.

I Road race a 09 ZX6r in the Midwest with CCS. I don't know about all of this dirt and mud but my boy seems to love it. It is a lot of work trying to keep the quad clean.

My wife stated I should practice first but I am just going to line up at the gate and go. Why practice so you can come in last i told her? LOL... It has been maybe 4-5 years since I last raced or even rode an atv more than up and down a drag strip testing or tuning. Used to race Nationally back in the late 90's and early 2000's up til about 2004 but that was TT and I am going to race MX which I have not done for even longer. My son has asked me to race a couple more times before I get too old as he stated. We are going to make it fun and someone will time both of us for laptime for winner rights. I just hope I can make it thru a couple laps before I have to pull off near that big oak tree at Steel City at the lower part of the track and take a nap. Him on his 90 and me on a YFZ450 I just bought last weekend. Unfortunetly I think he might be faster. Never say never I always stated as here I am for one more time. I am not 100% positive on this but I am really contemplating just to go out and have fun again. I got short term disability insurance, a life policy and health insurance so my wife stated go ahead. Ha ha LOL

I used to race a 125 2 smoker 20 years ago I decided last year I wanted to try it again, I was tired of watching. I picked up a Pitster Pro pitbike, thinking I could ride it and handle it a little better than a big bike. Boy was I wrong, that thing tore my tricep the first week. Now I'm hooked and can't stop racin' it. When I line up, the kids (13yrs and up) just snicker at me, I'm fast for a lap but I get the last laugh when I crack open a cold one when it's over. Jack gets a kick out of watching me, he says I'm slow. I tell him his quad is a dirtbike with training wheels.
