I just brought home an Apex 50cc for a 6 year old to start racing. I have no clue about mini quads, and have been researching and trying to get a clue for about 4 weeks now.

I'm wondering what to expect as far as maintenance, tricks, what to look out for, maybe some tips on how to make them perform better (any quad has room for improvement when they're stock)...just anything to help save me some money and headaches. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

where do you plan to race at?

Well we're going to do a mixture of ITP, WORCS, CMC, and possibly Ukiah, Chico & Prairie City. Just whatever races we can make it to.

Right now we're definitely planning on taking him to the 1st ITP race at Glen Helen. He's really excited!

The biggest things I found with my sons Apex 50 were:

1. Run good gas in it, VP C10 or C12 mixed with 93 octane.
2. Usa a good oil like KlotZ or Spectro
3. Always torque the slipper sprocket 100 - 110 ft lbs before each race.
4.Clutching is key with these little motors, a slight change can make a big difference.

In stock form these are very fast little quads, a little tuning and tweaking are needed, but one dialed in they scream. My boy entered 25+ races last season and never had a DNF. He also rode the crap out of it blowing the rear shock twice, but the quad never let us down. Good luck with it!!
