View Full Version : Bad idle/carb cleaning help

I bought a cheap 400ex a couple years ago. It's worn out and ugly, but it always ran great. I try to ride it around the block every week or two to keep it from gumming up. I use Stabil.
6 months ago, it was acting cold. Took forever to idle on it's own. Next time I rode after that, it would not run at all without choke. So, I figured it was time to clean the carb. It was gunked up. After the cleaning, it still wouldn't idle. I've done two more cleanings, and it still won't idle below 2500 rpm and pops out the carb. I sprayed carb cleaner around the carb an intake and didn't catch any leaks. I assume my pilot circuit is still clogged, but the screw and jets are clean as a whistle.

What's the best way to unclog that pilot passageway (the one you can't see, everything you can see is clean)?

Anything else to check?
