Advice on building a muffler

this is for my trx250x honda.

im planning on making dual mufflers for my quad. call me crazy, but i love uniqueness and being able to say "i made that", and this idea just seemed crazy to me! heres what i was thinking...

i have 2.5" diameter pipe for the main outer housing. im gunna route pipe through it thats the same size as the stock 'header'. im going to cut many scoops in the inside pipe and pack the muffler with steel wool.
each muffler is about 6.5" inches long and there will be one on each side of the back of the frame! 6.5" is really short. will this be obnoxiously loud?
or am i just crazy and should throw the idea away.
i figured it might balance the "cold air intake" filter i have on it

i would either almost double the length of the mufflers or just do a single. pack it tight. you want some restriction on that bad dog although it is a honda. hard to blow up.......
