Figured I'd share some pictures of my R since there's a lot of other posts like this. Mines not quit as extravagant as others though.

I got it just last year probably around January. I had an RM250 on craigslist trying to sell that I had about $1000 in and some guy emailed me asking if I wanted to trade for a 250R. Drove to Columbus that week and did the trade. It was completely stock. Only thing aftermarket was an old roostboost on it. It needed rear plastic and a rear break caliper but it started on the first kick and was in great shape.
<a href=http://i48.tinypic.com/nq1kk3.jpg><img src=http://i45.tinypic.com/1zc35zp.jpg></a><a href=http://i46.tinypic.com/vq1r88.jpg><img src=http://i45.tinypic.com/29gbiom.jpg></a>
<a href=http://i50.tinypic.com/24xgzme.jpg><img src=http://i47.tinypic.com/1124qo3.jpg></a><a href=http://i47.tinypic.com/246s3md.jpg><img src=http://i46.tinypic.com/i3yno6.jpg></a>

Got the rear caliper replaced and got some cheap plastic from a guy. Also picked up some old DW beadlocks.
<a href=http://i47.tinypic.com/317dtg0.jpg><img src=http://i47.tinypic.com/fbyijr.jpg></a><a href=http://i49.tinypic.com/xp54d2.jpg><img src=http://i45.tinypic.com/1zxt7pc.jpg></a>

Raced XC that year only replacing what I had too. Rear bearings, bend axle (from tree), used Works shocks, reeds, chain & sprockets, and of course a few rebuilds. The cylinder was also bored out to 67mm at the start of the season.

The fun started this winter during the off season. Started by striping the bike down to the frame. It was in sad shape at this point since it could of used a lot of maintenance when I got it and a full race season just made things worse.
<a href=http://i47.tinypic.com/2e3bh2h.jpg><img src=http://i46.tinypic.com/2lxca4p.jpg></a><a href=http://i46.tinypic.com/m8hb7k.jpg><img src=http://i50.tinypic.com/2v275u8.jpg></a>

Didn't even know I had a bent tie rod.
<a href=http://i45.tinypic.com/34ye96w.jpg><img src=http://i45.tinypic.com/14bm8td.jpg></a>

Cleaned everything up and repainted them. Got all new bearings from Pivot Works and started putting her back together.
<a href=http://i50.tinypic.com/2crum4o.jpg><img src=http://i45.tinypic.com/35162kn.jpg></a><a href=http://i49.tinypic.com/wjureo.jpg><img src=http://i45.tinypic.com/dws66c.jpg></a>
Got new chromoly tie rods since one was bent and these are stronger. Also got a new chain slider since the chain was starting to eat at the swingarm.
<a href=http://i48.tinypic.com/33f4a5x.jpg><img src=http://i46.tinypic.com/264tapf.jpg></a><a href=http://i45.tinypic.com/mi2hqe.jpg><img src=http://i48.tinypic.com/j63fc5.jpg></a>
Got a 4g tank and TRX-6 pipe from 312r1
<a href=http://i47.tinypic.com/11w4n6q.jpg><img src=http://i46.tinypic.com/2vn125t.jpg></a><a href=http://i50.tinypic.com/11u9kyw.jpg><img src=http://i48.tinypic.com/21kfmeh.jpg></a>

Threw the plastic I got from lilguy450 on to see what it will look like.

Got a rolling chassis now.

<a href=http://i49.tinypic.com/10xznzp.jpg><img src=http://i45.tinypic.com/40t5g.jpg></a><a href=http://i50.tinypic.com/2en18k1.jpg><img src=http://i49.tinypic.com/2lkv580.jpg></a>
<a href=http://i47.tinypic.com/r6zejb.jpg><img src=http://i46.tinypic.com/27y5t7s.jpg></a>

Also seen those bolt on kickup things that pro armor sells and tried to make a set myself while im waiting on parts to come in. Not too bad for only using cardboard, a sharpy, and a cutoff wheel lol. Still have to cut the teeth on the top for traction though.

Put some hand guards on.
<a href=http://i45.tinypic.com/xpn7n8.jpg><img src=http://i47.tinypic.com/2nbytk0.jpg></a><a href=http://i50.tinypic.com/2elbgxe.jpg><img src=http://i48.tinypic.com/13zr8nb.jpg></a>

Finished putting the motor back together. Only did a hone and new piston for the cylinder. Clutch is basically all new. Only piece that wasn't replaced was the arm that clutch cable connects too. Did the 89 upgrade with a Hinson basket. You can tell from the pic it was past time for a new basket. The old basket was actually filed down twice to keep it working last season.
<a href=http://i45.tinypic.com/21e0qdg.jpg><img src=http://i47.tinypic.com/2a0jqfs.jpg></a><a href=http://i45.tinypic.com/2ufxchu.jpg><img src=http://i49.tinypic.com/140i7td.jpg></a>

Also finished up my little side project. should look pretty good once i get my nerf bars fixed and mounted.
<a href=http://i48.tinypic.com/11t8mkk.jpg><img src=http://i49.tinypic.com/731bwo.jpg></a><a href=http://i48.tinypic.com/258rsqo.jpg><img src=http://i48.tinypic.com/2j1v146.jpg></a>

Going to actually take my digital camera and get some better pics. My phone doesn't do that great of a job.

Fired her up and let her run for the first time since October today. Sounds nice and strong even though its not jetted yet. I want to ride it so bad but got to wait for a new chain to come in. Got a few other parts coming in to finish it up too. Looks like ill be running my old suspension for the first race since I still haven't found a cheap set of 450r shocks to send to GTT yet.

How does that fare against 400EX's in XC?

not sure i only started racing last year. I finished 3rd overall in the first year racer class with both 1st and 2nd being 450's. In my class i think it has more to do with the rider then the bike. Your just not really pushing it enough to see any limitations.

So the R was doing pretty good this year even though there was a few gremlins that I ran into.

Because of my wreck though I'm not able to finish the year so I decided to let my buddy race it so that at least someone would be out there on a R.

Unfortunately though the bottom end went out on it during his 2nd lap. Even though I told him it wasn't his fault he decided to pay to have it fixed himself. Long story short my R is now getting a hotrod +4 crank and new top end. I know that the head should be ported to get the most out of it but I'm not paying for it so I'm not going to be picky. I have a ct310 I'll get ported latter for it.
