What is this?

I was just wondering if anyone gets this same problem after a weekend of riding. I get this crud under the shift lever. it looks like oil or could be chain lub or something. just curious to if there is a quick fix to stopping it. do you think its anything serious?

Your shift shaft seal is probably leaking. Just watch your oil level. You don't want to replace it unless it gets really bad because you'll have to split the case (total engine tear-down).

ok thanks. if i keep an eye on the oil level, it wont do anything damage to other parts?

You don't have to split the cases to replace the shift shaft seal! It a simple 15 minute job

Oh, you're right. I was thinking *replacing* the shift shaft. Yup, just pick out the old seal and put a new one in. Probably easier said than done, but in theory, it shouldn't take too long.

mines a 2007 and I get the same thing after rideing in sand. I found that its just chain lube comeing off and collecting dust. not to worry just ease up on the lube a little and it'll get better

you dont have to split the cases to replace the shift shaft either...just pull that side cover off and pull the shift shaft out.
