can someone help me? i am in the army and with my recent deployment my 05 kfx 400 hasnt been started at all in the last 2 1/2 years. its completely stock, besides the obvious fluid flush what else could possibly be wrong with my quad?

i was in the same boat as you and come to find out the rings one mine were stuck.

i also just bought a new complete exhaust sys, but cant get the old stock headpipe out, any suggestions?

You may want to take the plug out and take the flywheel nut plug off and turn it by hand possbly pour a little oil down into the cylinder before turning it and letting it set for a bit to soak in to make sure it didnt cold seize. To get the exhaust out you'll have to take the bolts out for the oil tank to move it.

did you drain the fuel before putting it away? if not, I'd clean out the tank and carbs. Gasoline turns to crap after about 3 months and gums everything up.

Not sure what removes that stale gasoline varnish. I've had to scrape and buff the carburetor bowls in everything I've had that sat. If someone finds something that dissolves that crap, let me know!

CRC Contact cleaner 2000. Works like a champ. It is all solvent base so remove any rubber seals or diaphrams before spraying it will dry them out.
