Please help 300 ex starter prob

the brushes were gone in my starter i changed them, it spins and all ....but i put it on the bike and all it does is spin like it aint engaging or the teeth aint grabbin ...any suggestions would help thannks

id be willing to bet its spinning backwards. when i did my first starter it spun backwards. i tore it back apart and rebuilt it and it worked fine. i never figured out why. must have to do with how the armature is placed in.
wish i could help more but it only happened to me once

there is a one way clutch on the inside of the motor that the starter gears turn that turns the crank obv. to start the motor... sounds like the clutch is not catching and engaging its right inside the left case

change your oil and check the oil and filter for metal shavings if you find some its probably your one way.
