ipod shuffle problems

I have an old school ipod shuffle the small square one that has the built on clip. I have not used this thing in over a year and was wanting to use it again so i loaded new songs on it and it will not play. I can play the songs off it through my computer like it is only storing them like a thumb drive. When i try playing them it just blinks green and orange lights no music. Is there a way to reformat the ipod?
