I am looking to buy a set of Burgard a arms for my 400ex while they are on sale and am having a tough time choosing between +1 or +2's. It will be used mostly as a trail bike and maybe some hare scramble races. I already have stock 450r front shocks.

I am leaning toward the +2's as it will put me at 46" wide front and back. I was also planning on going with +2+0 to avoid shifting weight forward on the bike. What do you think? Is there any reason to go with the +1's?

i think for trails id do +1+0 honestly. Some trails can get tight, i know i used to be able to ride the hell out of the trails we built behind my house and now with my a-arms on, no way i can

mineralgrey is right u go +2 +0 u cant fit in most trail u will come to two trees close together and have to make a path around it. for trail riding and hair scrambles most people choose +1 +0 just more comprable for the trails. its really your choose but i would go +1 cuz i have +2 +1 and wish i had a bike that had +1 so i could switch depending on what i wanted to ride.

I think the front rims I have on it now are 3/2's. Will I really notice much of a difference going from stock to +1? It just doesn't seem like that big a difference. Plus the rear of the bike has to clear the trees too and so far I have not had any problems at 46" wide out back. +2 arms up front will put me at 46" and +1's will put me at about 44".

i am pretty sure u are right. +1 is 1 inch on both sides so a total of 2 inch when mounted. +2 is 2 inches on both side so a total of 4 iches. so i would go +1 it would make it like 45 1/2 and depending what rims u use depends on the rest of the width. again its what u want.

Will switching to +1 a arms make a night and day difference in the way the bike handles now with the stock arms? I mean is the $400 spent really a major improvement or would I be better off spending the money on revalving the stock 450r shocks and maybe new spring?

If +2 makes you around 48 inches how do 60 inch rzrs and rhinos go on the trails?

those trails are much wider than the ones we ride i know that for a fact. You can tell a big difference. I know i can tell a big difference in the trails for them and mine

I understand the +2's make a big difference but do you think the +1's will as well? One inch on each side just doesn't seem like that much of a difference over stock. I just don't want to throw my money away on +1's if they don't really do much.

any part thats not stock is going to make a difference, and a arms is deff one of them. u will notice a difference in taking corners the handaling will improve alot comparred to stock. revalving and respringing doesnt cost that much at most 200 to 300 bucks. i would spend the money on the a arms u will notice a deff for sure.

Look man. don't listen to everyone else because they don't ride where you do... I could have +3 for trails I usually ride. Think about where YOU ride and if YOU can get 4 inches wider, I wouldn't spend the same price for +1s when I get +2s and not have any clearance issues. But it's up to you like I said.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. After thinking about it I am going to hold off on buying arms until after I am able to do a little riding with the bike this spring/summer. I just bought it last fall and have been working on it all winter with little ride time. If I find the bike is just squeeking through my trails I will stick with stock and if it seems like there is plenty of room I will go for wider arms. I am guessing Burgard will have them on sale again at some point in time in the future and I could always keep an eye out for a used set.

I did a search and was looking at old threads last night and the pics of the 400's with +2's looked almost too wide to me. It is amazing how much of a difference the extra 4 inches makes. Ideally I think I would want +1's with the 3/2 wheels I am running but I just don't think it will make that dramatic a difference so I am going to hold off a little bit.

my +2's definitley made a differenct on mine compared to stock, now with 3/2 wheels its even wider

+1's make a big difference, it I were to buy arms again, I'd still buy the +1's.

I like the added stability and improved handling while still being able to navigate tight trails and the tighter tree runs/idiot holes at the dunes.
