What size valve shims do i need in order to change my clearences? Also do you have to adjust your valves for the exhaust cam in place of the intake cam mod?
Thanksd

NO way of knowing until you know what the clearences are now for each valve and what shim sizes are in place.

YES you should check and shim as needed when you replace your cam

Sorry I didnt explain myself well enough. I was actually asking what was the diameter of the shims themselves. There are 2 main sizes 7.48mm and 9.48mm. Thanks for the help also im trying to do this real soon and dont have access to a service manual. Are there obvious timing marks for top dead center on the flywheel and marks on the cams? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

9.48 shims will not work, they might seem "okay" but have some movement side to side in place. Your best bet will be checking your valve clearances, and ordering the proper shims from your dealership.

We're going through the same process right now, and have a complete set of 9.48 from our old Yamaha's that is useless...

huh that really sucks. they would have to make things difficult lol. So theres just too much play and you run the risk of them jumping out of place?

Not so much jumping out of place, but maybe causing uneven wear over time, and movement side to side.

Have you measured the DS to see what it is compared to the standard 9.48 ones.

They are very close, I think there is right around .02 difference, and move back and forth noticeably.

The O.D. of the DS shim is 9.96 MM I'm thinking the Hot Cams 10mm shim kit may just work but we took the safe way found the shim sizes needed and order them. But note we have a good dealer and got the shims in 3 day even with the Holiday I know some of you are not as lucky so you may want to call Hot Cams and see if they can give you the O.D. of they 10 mm shims I would think it not right on 10 mm and even if it is 10 mm should fit in the DS retainer
