So be honest, howmany of your 440s can hang with the new 450s?

Just curious guys, be honest.. List your set ups, to get us a good idea.. Can you hang with or beat a new 450 quad??

There are really too many variables to factor in, generally it comes down to rider ability.

Ive read threads where people say that decent 416's and a great rider can keep up with the barely modded or stock 450's, so I imagine a 440 with a decent rider would do the same.

personally, I ride a 99 400 with just an open airbox, some jetting and a full big gun exhaust, and I manage to run with 450's and craptors in the sand, but a built banshee will spank me.

soon, I will have my own 400, and I will make a great sleeper.

not sure how new you mean but my ex is now bored to about a 410cc and it stays right beside my buddies 05 450r thats jetted k&n filter and full rossier exhaust both have stock gearing

Ohh I totally agree about the rider making the race, but I am meaning in a flat out straight line race, or coming out of a turn acceleration..

I think that in a flat race, and with a rider that knows how to accelerate and shift at the opportune moments, that a modified 400 can keep up.

as for coming out of a turn, that reminds me of XC, and yes a modded 400 will be able to keep pace because of all the low end torque, but would probably lose ground in the open field sections.

the low end power is to great to pull back in top speed

now im not saying it will flat out smoke it, but it will be a good race and come down to riders

this is s a tough subject..i feel like the 450r is way better even stock.. a 440 is about the only thing thats close.. i have both a 400 and a 450 right now..also had anoter 400ex and a z 400..z is a amazing quad by the way.. but it really is all the rider.. but with riders of same ability..idk about the 440 taking a 450.. think if you were the one on the 450 racing a guy on a 400..do you think you would win? probably lol.. this is such a touchy subject.. lol.. its all opinions.. but i have seen people on 400s beat 450's.. so it sure is possible..

In my experiences so far with my 440, I have eaten alive some 450s and then I have had my *** handed to me by others. I consider myself to be an ok rider but far from the best. Ive let some of my friends who have faster reaction time than I do run my quad at grass drags and take out most of the 450s they went up against. So, I say yes the machine is very capable in the right hands

mines a basic 11:1 440 and i have spanked modded yfzs and even a lightly modded ltr and a 450r. but anyone of them with more than a pipe or a longer flat drag they could have got me. its the 500' drags. in a track id got spanked, in the woods i wouldnt even know they was back there. i ride all the time with 450s in the woods and i eat em right up. that is till we hit the open spots then they get me.

my experience is about the same as bigbad's is. I ride with two piped 450's regularly throughout the summer and in the woods i am as fast or faster as one rider and blow away the other yfz rider. so it really does come down to the experience of the rider. I do agree the machine IS capable and if nothin else a sleeper. I try to drag race on the dunes and its just not my thing. lol. i drop the clutch and wheelie half way down and just get anhialated. So every rider has their niche and and take a great rider on a 450 out of their element and a 400ex will beat them. Straight line equal riders......not a chance.

I've never ridden a 440, but i'll tell you there is a significant difference between my 400ex with slip-on/air filter/jet-kit and my yfz 450 with gytr pipe and lid off......

those bore'd and cam'd 400ex's must really gain some pickup because my ex is a dog compared to my 450 (wherever i ride it). It's just a completely different beast. The 400 loves the trails and my 450 loves the track but, it's safe to say the yfz 450 will eat it all up faster

i have a slip on and k&n air filter and when i race a stock yfz 450 on the road we stay neck and neck threw the first 3 gears but once he hits 4 he is gone! but a stock ktm powered outlaw is a different story, when i race the outlaw as soon as he hits 2 he is gone, that thing has so much torque its not even funny

A 400EX can be made to beat a 450R. Its all about how deep your pockets are, THAT IS RACING. The richest man will win the straight drag.

In my mind, this is the unwritten rule. When your a rookie-moderate rider, your ability is 80% and the bike is 20% in terms of how fast you can race. As your ability begins to improve, the quad increases its %'s. Your starting to push the bike now........ 50% rider, 50% quad.

Now look at the pro's, the quad is very important. Now its more 20% rider, 80% machine in terms of how fast a person can race.

This is why you see guys racing PRO caliber machines, that are slow as h311.

This is why you hear the pro's saying, our setup just wasn't quite right today.............

yes a 440 can beat a stock 450 but it wouldnt take much money for the 450 to be able to go right back by a 440 in a drag race.

I have no problem keeping up with or beating 450's, either in a drag race or on top end. The way my EX runs surprises a lot of people.:macho

id believe a 440ex with bolt on's could beat a stock 450...the rest of you claming to beat a 3 or more mod 450 are throwing up hopes and dreams in my IMHO.
