Someone wants to trade me for a 02 raptor with the 686 bore. Mine isnt perfect, the exhaust flange has a bolt broke on both headers so each only has one bolt, but other than that its pretty decent bike. Would this be a good trade. I ride trails

I would say keep the 400. I dont think that the raptor would be near as good of a trail bike as the 400 in my opinion. See what everyone else thinks just giving you my .02.

Ask yourself....If you had a Raptor 660 with a big bore kit, why would you want to swap it for a Honda 400EX?

Maybe he's thrashed it and can't afford the repairs!
Maybe he finds it too tall and too tippy!

if you're even thinking of gettin a raptor don't. especially 01-03 models, they have bad starters and second gear always blows out. 04s are alright, but i had an 05 and it was jut a little better, they made a bunch of small changes in 05. if you're looking for an all out torque monster and wheelie machine, get one, but don't expect it to handle like your 400

Keep your 400.. I have road many raptors, every one I have road have felt top heavy, don't or at least would not power slide for me well. Hard to predict them.. I love my 400, which was Y I op'd to build it instead of buying a new bike.. The feel of one seems very stable, predictable, more nimble, to me anyway, with a few mods will be as much power as you can use on most woods trails IMO

a raptor would only be good for drags i will always have some kind of 400 zuk kaw or honda they feel awesome and are very stable bone stock they can haul around good the raptor is always having trouble no matter what the 400ex is bulletproof

I’d keep the ex and fix it. I’ve never ridden a raptor but I spank them on a regular basses.

Keep the EX, the only Raptor worth getting is the 700 IMO.

oh wow. their pretty ****ty from what it sounds like, i would like the power but all i ride is tight trails, and the 400 does have plenty of power for that, i guess ill hold out for a 450r one day, oh and he did say that the starter was missing a tooth.

Missing a tooth on the starter is probably just the start.

On a side note... the 400EX does what it was made for excellently, but the Honda 450R would not be my choice for a 450.

my buddy just got a yfz with high comp. piston that we just got finished, it has a hella lot of power but i havent gotten a good chance to ride it, would this be a better 450 then the honda

also is a 02 raptor worth more than a 01 400ex, because if its worth more and easier to sell then it would be worth the trade so i can sell it and get what i want

i know a guy who traded a 91 2wd chevy silverado lowered with a 350 motor nice shape 4 a 02 raptor, come to find out it has starter problems and the 2nd gear is gone what a pos stay clear of that yamaha at least the craptor!!!!! honda is all ive ever owned from my frist 110 3wheeler,my 250r 3 wheeler, and my 86and89 trx 250r, and my 400ex , also have a cbr 600f4i motorcycle, i have had no problems with any, well not like yamahas. the choice would be clear to me!!!!!

Firstly let me say I think you should stay away from this particular Raptor. If it has problems that you have to fix then you are no better off. Best sell your 400EX and get a 450 if thats what you want.

If you buy a 450, try to get something without any engine mods. Less chance it will give you trouble. In general, any quad with big engine mods will eventually give more trouble than a stock motor.

Big power mods put more strain on your crank / bearings / transmission / clutch / chain / sprockets etc: Basically everything wears out faster.

A good 450 with and pipe/filter and some dollars thrown at the shocks should keep you entertained for years, and hopefully without any reliability issues.

For trail riding my personal choice would be a 2008 KFX450, second of coarse to a HONDA 400EX:D

ya i might just keep mine and throw on a 450r carb, and put in a 3degree advance key and run c10, with the mods i already have that should make a good difference for under 200 dollars for what i just called out im gonna go ahead and grind down the header welds too

I'm a Yamaha freak... and we've had yamaha's my whole life and so has my father. Of course with other quads mixed in, but I always end up back on a Yamaha. They never give me trouble, and have never failed me. I also think they there bikes are less cheesy then some Honda's I have ridden and more powerful..

So now that I made it clear how much of a yamaha buff I am.. STAY CLEAR OF THE 660's!!

Honestly one of the worst quads yamaha ever built. 01's and 02's had 2nd gear problems, and most of the other years including 01, 02 had starter clutch problems.
Not to mention they're very tippy/top heavy/ill handling. And turds for how large their motor is. Honestly not much faster then the piped 400ex's.

The raptor 700's are SWEET, but 660's are CRAP. End of story.

the only 660 i've rode that i like is my buddy's 2004. we put banshee front shocks on it, and a banshee axle in it. that lowered the front end and widened it to about 47". and the axle made it 47" in the rearend. he's got razr MX's front and rear, so it sits even lower. it sits just a little under 6" off the ground now and it still doesn't corner as good as my 416. he can ride one hell of a wheelie, but thats about all its good for
