How much space should be between the engine and he swingarm... My lonestar swingarm toutches the engine case. I already ground some material off he swingarm to see if it would clear, and it still just barely toutches. What do i do now? Should i try to move the motor mounts foreward 1/8?

with my quad being an 89 setup the swing arm to engine tolerances are closer. with that being said, i have to keep a close check on this. what i do to ensure the maximum gap is to either use cedar wedges or plastic puddy knives that are wedged between the swinger and engine prior to tightening the swinger and engine mounts.

your swingarm bearings need to be replaced, thats the only time it rubs the cases.

swingarm bearings are new... But this is a 88 swingarm and a 86 frame so maybe that makes a difference

surely not on a fresh build. is it also possible that something is tweeked or miss aligned with the engine mounts?

You need an 86 or 87 swinger.

ill just move the motor up 1/8 inch so it will clear.

i would guess that the lower motor mounts that you made/repaired are off.

I'm with Joe, looking at this pic, the mounts could be off slightly:

Here is a pic of my 89 frame for comparison:

They may be. Im going change the rear ones. Im going to slot the lower center mount so it will slide forward 1/8. and then im gonna weld re weld the rear mouts so its 1/8 inch forward. The center bottom mount was not stock. So who ever made those messed up i think.

the rear mounts arent to far back , there actually to tall. i just put my mounts in my laeger and the pic troybuilt put up shows your mounts and mine were way shorter than those

can anyone measure the length of the tab from the center of the bolt to the frame? so i can replicate it and put it on my frame?
Thanks

Well that's gonna be tough because my 2 chassis' are both different. My laeger is .550 to center of hole and my prd is .900 to center of hole. My only suggestion is cut the rear mounts out then put the motor in using the lower mounts, the front mounts and the head stay then get your measurement

do you have a stock 86 or 87 swingarm with the corresponding engine mount? if so, then i suggest using that as template to establishing all to other mounts that secure the engine.

i have a 86 swingarm and 86 mount so im going to use that and the front bolt on mounts, then im gonna build the reast of the mounts to fit.

So i got it so that the swingarm doesnt rub the case, but its still pretty close. As long as its not toutching now setting still should i be fine?

on a side note...the closer the better. dirt and such can work its way inbetween the swingarm and the case and eventually cause a stress failure in the case.
