My 11 to 1 440 ex is getting really hot its about - 5 out here it runs good no sign of being lean for any reason , just out for a short run & cyl. & side of tranny are stupid hot plenty of air flow & snow are getting at it , it is puffin & shortly due for a rebuild but

shouldnt be this warm even warmer than revvin flat out on a hot summer day any ideas ... ???

Take out your spark plug; does it look lean? Should be a light chocolate brown or cardboard box color. What octane gas are you using?

thats what happens to air cooled high compression engines especialy a big bore they get real hott im thinking ur eather lean or the mix of alot of cold air and fuel evenin the corect proportions is just building up to much heat for it cool fast enough

spark plug is a nicer tan colour no exhaust leak I could find , no signs of being lean

I pulled rocker cover off after adjusting valves & it still was sounding ticky it seems my timing chain tensioners spring has given up anyway so I gotta replace that anyway im a few bolts away from buying rings & h.d gasket possibly piston & cleaning up bore since shes a smoker anyway & she loses a lot of oil every time I check it anyone else getaway with just rings on their 440 without another new sleeve piston etc. , since Im alrewady at the biggest bore ???
