not the first one, thats what they end up getting like if the bearing explode and you keep riding.

I've seen that happen, then the balls from the bearings get wedged between the carrier lip and the brake hub and the whole rear locks up :P

it seems like the 300ex, 400ex an 450r all have this problem. honda didn't do a very good job desighing it, an aftermarket carrier is a must.

there is nothing wrong with the carriers, the problem is that no one ever replaces the bearings

You're right Amigo, after doing that one time, I learned to keep up w/ maint. in that area of our quads.

Grease fittings, even on a stock carrier are a good idea. I broke a 400ex carrier one time, and ever since then, keep up with maintenance. It's crucial on all fourwheelers, but these "racing" fourwheelers require more attention than the old bear trackers and t wolfs that we used to ride for hours on end with no attention to detail.:p

Just curious, how many hours on that carrier?

I bought the quad used in feb. of 2007. It hadn't been ridden alot when i bought it, but we ride almost every weekend from the end of april till November with the exception of this past summer because I had elbow surgery in Sept. and that ended our season. So, if i had to guess, hmmmm prolly 2000 hours to be on the conservative side just by me. Before that idk. And we rode 3 or 4 days strait in Kentucky and prolly a week total days time at Silverlake the last 2 years also. I thought something was wrong the last time we rode in August but I though it was the rear brakes. I'm glad we decided to rebuild this winter. The new RAD tapered carrier i got rox! I love that it has ther zerk on it to get the grease in there. Definately will be staying on top of it from now on. Can anyone tell me, i'm getting a new lonestar axle and i wanted an aftermarket rear disc hub, but it looks like you either have to get a new stock or go with the anti-fade nut? Are those my only options? Thanks, Eva

If that's all that you broke in 2000 hours, you're doing awesome. Mines ready for a total overhaul every 12 2 hours races. lol.

An antifade locknut is probably your only option.

Thanks fastredrider I assumed i had to go that route. I can't imagine how ruff racing is on these quads. I ride quite hard and am impressed by how they hold up. I can't imagine what a beating they get from racing, esp gncc!
