so im setting up one of my wheelers for xc and serious trails. i have full skids and all the goodies i just need some tire advice. im wondering about the itp quadcross xc in 22" or the kenda klaw xc in 22" any other suggestions or any input is great. i need the clearance. i will sprocket down to keep my power. also dont want a wide tire really. i just want good bite and 22" tall tire. i have 23-7-10 klaws on the front.
i climb big hills and get into all kinds of tight tech trails. wet leaves and some soft and some rocky ground.

well i dont no if you watch the GNCC iron man series. its XC races and all the riders there use 20" tall tires and never have issues climbing and crossing that stuff, and its some serious shizz........i personally wouldnt use a 22 tall tire, but anyways stay away from ITPs.......the ok but the best XC tire is kenda klaws or maxxis razr....thats no my personal opinion that 99% percent of XC racers opinions.......i have never seen a PRO xc rider using itps......so thats my 2 cents

haha never seen a gncc rider with itp tires hahaha thats the funniest thing i have heard.. yes most run maxxis razr's out back and razr 2's up front but there are still some that ride itp man.. numerous people are sponsered by itp..i have rode on both razr's and itp's gncc tires.. and they are a way different tire.. i think the gncc's work in the naster stuff better... razr's are idk i like both man.. cant really decide which i perfer.. gncc's look way sweeter.

Do you race xc????
i race every weekend and they are the best time they dig in deep, Wash out fast in muddy conditions and have thick sidewalls. and if ur only racing local races you cant compare tire ussage to gncc riders its totally different, gncc is way more wide open compared to most local series which is a tighter track

im talking following a built 4x4 quad through nasty rocky swampy trails. one lane wide. something you wouldnt take a ex down normally, i have it all set up for water and serious hell but i cant decide what tires. i need the taller tires, noone makes a 21 thats a true 21 gnccs are 21 but only measure about 20. i also cant see spending 100 or more a tire for razr ll's or gncc's. the itp quadcross xc and kenda klaw xc both have a 22" and they both measure closer to a true 22. they both look good. the only thing is is one is dual rotation and one is not. well on the trail i cant stop to turn them around so what tire would you trust to get you through a big bog of mud then up a 70' tall hill with mud clogged in your tires on wet leaves. this is northern michigan im talking here, i live in the sticks back 80 (lol thats way out there) i also thaught about another set of HD's but there again there so expensive and i cant say they did any better getting me through the worst of it, and i hate not being able to do a dougnut in the field cus the side bite on them is so good. if i had the money i would probably go with gncc's but for over 200 for 2 tires i cant do it.

gncc's aren't $100 a tire, they're a little pricey but the set thats on mine cost $315 for all four

mudsharks, 21" tall flat beasts with 1" lugs. they will never let you down if you are doing stuff like that. go to a 14 tooth and you will be set. lol. if you are looking for a decent all around tire the razrs, 2s or the gnccs are all good tires. I would look into the new ones that are razr knockoffs. i think they are trexs. they are supposed to be really nice tires too. steve

also a nice tire. Are those 4 or 6 ply? the mudsharks are 6 so they are a bit on the heavy side. there is also the mud lite sport tire that looks really nice for the major mud. steve

stock gears are 15 and 38 correct?

i have a 14 and a 39 on now. you think that will gear me close to stock with 22's i like were the power is with stock gears.

never mind i found the converter. stock top speed is 68.62 mph. if i have 22 inch tires and 14/39 gears it puts top speed at 68.59 id say i did good estimating... 0.3 mph off. lol

just adding 22's alone gives a 7+ mph gain:eek2: i might try the 14/38 too and see how it is. it jumps me up to 70.4 mph 1.5 mph over stock, i have some power adders so i should be good with the power.

ill post pics of this setup when the tires come in. i did alot of reserch on the tire sizing and alot of the gncc and xc riders use 23 fronts and 22 rears, why do you think most of the xc gncc tires come in 20s and 22s only, some 21s. more clearance under the axle and better traction in deeper shiz is what i wanted. like i said i ride in some nasty crap with this one.

i have a mx setup 426ex that i never touch and a trail ready z400 too. i wanted this one to be a straight animal in the trails. i can only go slow anyhow cuz i follow a Suzuki eiger400 and the boss's can am outlander 800 down the swampy hilly trails. i need a beast. :macho
