How many of you guys have studded your wheelers? What length, pattern, how many, what kind, how much air pressure you run after you stud them? Any and all info would be great. Thanx.

Dammmmmnnnnn!!!!! thats nice. Ive wanted to do that for so long. Just to show off tho, theres no snow here in florida. But I figured I could really screw up some lawns....

I’ve never seen more then a ¼ “studded tire, so those would qualify as meat grinders for sure. I see some serious tire failure with the way you have yours. Not sure how you have them mounted but most studs are just screwed in from the outside. Way to long too even try on hard ground. Extreme indeed.

Awesome, i havent seen actual studs only the screw type ones. I know some guys used to run 1/2" dry wall screws that they just drilled into the tires. they were cheap so it wasnt bad to get a bunch of packs and start drilling. lol. steve

What kind of air psi are your running? Did you use lock tite on your studs?

no lock tight used an air rachet to get them nice and tight

running 15-20 lbs in them

WOW! we only took them as tight enough to see some threads showing on stud. The recommendation were to torque them to 8-10ft pounds but we did not have a torque wrench so I am sure we went even more then 8-10 ft pounds. The stud was sucked up into rubber on the inside of tire thou. We did not use lock tight either. Was kinda worried about that but........since you haven't I feel better. We also did not you air ratchet so I know ours aren't as tight as yours. Hope we will be ok.

yeah i know what your saying about when they get tight they were pulling up the rubber making dimples .... the ply isnt as strong on these tires as lets say a snowmobile track thats why i went as tight as possible i dont want them to pull out. but the harder the pressure that will stop them from wanting to fold under as you spin or launch. i was going to make a set using 20 10 10 snowmobile trailer tires thats a better ply but i dodnt have any 10" rims at the time ive never seen studs in the front like that looks bad *** ive only used cold cutters but i this set up im running smoothies and suprisinly im turning well lol

i also had a v pattern used 400 ex tires have some 450r tires but its hard to get6 a good pattern on those i belive i have 8 scratch lines with these tires that way they are on fresh ice

So you think I should tighten them all up more or leave it and run 16 PSI in tires front and rear?

Yea, I know what you mean on the 450R tires. One of them you can get an ok V but the other one sucks to get even close to a V LOL.

See the white dot? That is where the 1st V starts and just above that is where the last V ended up. The lugs kinda messes up your pattern on this one but not near as bad as the otherside LOL:eek2:

looks like a good pattern to me .... if it was mine id tighten them up your tires will be ruined if one pulls out

You mean tighten the nut tighter or tighten (add more studs) the pattern up?

i went until the air rachet wouldnt turn anymore i have a buddy that his are so tight he runs no tubes

Ours hold air also with no tubes. We only tightened ours till we seen the 1st or 2nd row of threads on the stud. Then we stopped right there. Didn't want to smash the rubber so tight that it actually would start cutting it.

Flip that right side tire on the rim and you'll be able to match your "V" design (obviously you would need another tire). I would also put a fair amount of air pressure to keep the picks from "rolling" and ripping out. Can you guys get a hold of some worn out Hole shots? Some cross country tires for the 6 ply? I'm thinking they would be some better tread design to make room for a pick pattern.

Like I've said in the other thread... I've only ever used screws so I'm just tossing out thoughts. I had a friend use some picks on a CBR900RR one winter.. Talk about "Mad Max" looking!!!

Yea, we did flip it when they were both off the rim. It will not work because the tread layout is totally different. We tried side by side, we kept thinking there is nowaaay that they can be different but they are. We will be running 16-17 PSI in the tires. That would be nice to find a used pair of hole shots or maxxis. If these rip out that will be next.

Damn those r sweet, ur not playin around!! Lol. I just put some Kold Kutters into my bandits last weekend and they gripped great for me....first time ever running studded tires. I can only imagin how well those grab...don't run ur leg over! Lol.
