I picked up a nice '05 450r carb for pretty cheap. I'm gonna go with an ESR Airbox Eliminator Kit (http://www.tqsatv.com/proddetail.php?prod=ESR-RACING-INTAKE-AIRBOX-ELIMINATOR) instead of using an adapter to fit it to the stock breather tube and airbox. Also picking up a Dynojet kit to get it all dialed in. I just had a few questions about what exactly needed to be done to the carb, like what to do with the hot start and if there is anything else I should know. I know there is a thread about installing the 450r carb, but it's specific to using zrpilots adapter which I won't be using. Also wondering what jetting I should start out with (Dynojet numbers, please).

Here are some pictures of the monster:

i had that same eliminator kit on my 250r and man it was a serious pain to put on. My carb fell out the boot from hitting a bad hole once because there is so much pressure pushing the carb to the side

carb looks to be in really good shape though, good find

Really? That sucks. I've been talking with a guy who used the ESR kit on his EX with a 450r carb and loves it. Hopefully that's just a 250r specific problem haha. I'm gonna keep my stock box and all that just in case I don't like it or something doesn't work out, anyways. But yeah, I got the carb, throttle cable and throttle for $80 shipped.

lol it might be, my problem was it if i didnt bend it to the left side any it would hit the shock and wouldnt slide on. Hopefully it is just that problem. Id love to do one on my 400 but i ride in too wet of conditions to run something like that

oh and fyi if you have the filter, the kit is extremely easy to make, my brother made one for under $10 (not including the filter cost)

Well some of the stuff from ZR is useful. Like remounting the vent tube to the side so it dosent get pinched when you set the tank on. For the hot start spend the 25 bucks for the valve and you wont have any problems. Jetting is different machine to machine but a good start would be a 48 or 50 pilot and about a 165ish main I guess.

Where can I get a hot start valve?

This is gonna make people mad but anyway... you do not need the hotstart parts, if you wanna know how to do it without the parts ask me. save the money....

If you change your mind I could hook you up with an adapter, haha :D

I wouldnt buy the hot start parts and I would use this instead of an adapter....

You would need part number 8. What johndoe did was fill his port with rtv BUT if you dont fill down inside the little needle hole then you will have running and tunning issues. You can try it, most just give up and buy the valve.

I'm not worried about time, I just want to get it done right. DGY has the valve for $17.

i would get the valve much easier. otherwise, just plug it, make sure the other one on top is plugged like zr said, and you should be able to mount it up. run the throttle the same way as the stocker and mount it in the same place. you are good to go, especially if you are not running an airbox. it would make it much easier to do. steve

the stock jets from your 400 carb will work also to a point. I am running a 172 main with the rest stock in mine right now and with the airbox lid off it was a bit lean. So took one of my lids and drilled a bunch of 1/2" holes in it. I think there are 16 in it total. Now it is good enough for the winter. lol. This spring i will look into the needle and the pilot to see how it is there too. steve

Yeah, I'm gonna get the vale. Like I said, I'm not worried about spending $20 to get it done right. I've got some basic numbers to try for the jetting from a guy who is running the ERS kit so I'll start there. He's running a 426 kit as well, though. Is the hot start and the top thing the only stuff I need to worry about?

Most of the time you dont need to relocate the vent line mine fits the way it is. Those lines are for when the motors upside down so that gas doesnt keep flowing in the motor.

My vent fits along the same path the throttle cable goes, then I stuck it in the whole on my tank sheild right next to the carb. And it clears the tank just fine with no kinks.

mine is actually blocked off going to that hose. It was like that when i got it. lol. anyone think that will hurt it having that plugged. it has some silicon or something in it right now so it may be tough to get out. lol. steve

It wont hurt anything... I was gonna cut mine down and fill it also but found that it fit the way it was, so I left it...

If its a concern, worst case scenario, clean it out with a paper clip....lol... or just drill the other 1 out.

Alright, I just placed an order for the ERS kit, a Dynojet kit and the hot start valve. Am I missing anything?

sounds like you have everything now to do it. you could tear your machine apart and get it ready to install everything in the mean time. run your cable, mount the lever and such. make sure your cable is not binding by not twisting it. spin the carb not the cable. other than that you are good steve

I'm going out next weekend so I'll hold off on tearing it apart. That is, unless all the stuff gets here before that.
