the measured amount is about 5/8 of a quart but i as well as others will round up to 3/4. i use a goed dextron automatic trans fluid with great results and change it after every outing.

i think just about any gear oil will work. (correct me if wrong) its just good to change often.

I have always ran Havoline 40W motor oil in my R's and I've never had a transmission problem and it really seems to make for smoother shifting too...but I change it religiously too, like every time I ride. If I'm at a national race I'll change it 3-4 times from Friday to Sunday.

It takes 700 cc HP is the good oil for sure .

Do not use any gear oil ! Why ? Because there is a clutch to deal with that is not a GEAR !

i know that some types of differentials have clutches in them, so it shouldnt cause any issues.

Yep; any clutch-type differential will take an oil with limited slip additive.

Here is my thought: why would you come on here and give your advice when you're not really sure if it's right?:huh

Gear oil and 10w-40 is very different oil..

I was simply letting others know that you do not want to put any gear oil in your 250R.

I just don't know why someone would open their mouth and tell someone else to run something when they don't have experience with it and know for a fact it will work correctly.

I certainly wouldn't guess at something and tell someone else they should be safe doing it. No way.

That's why I have to jump in and say something. I can't see crap like this flying:

"Yeah I think this might work."

Come on.

but i do have experience with it. but, my suggestion may not be correct for this application i have been running 80w gear oil in my 250r for 8 years without a problem.

the fact of the matter is you like to cause problems. if you dont like what people say, respond in a mature fashion

by the way, you misquoted me.

Lol. You're right. My bad.

IMO, can't possibly go wrong with Pro Honda oil.

I run Klotz Flexdrive. Never had any problems. Also ran the Honda stuff before that with no issues.

Can't say that I've had an issue with the Honda HP stuff, but will def. try the Klotz the next time around. I'm very impressed with the premix oil and spray lubes; going to try their Snomobile oil soon as well for my sled.

I use their snowmobile 2 stroke oil on my 2 strokes. I had a pro-x pv get clogged using klotz 2 stroke oil. I smells funny, people know I'm using something that most people don't. It doesn't smoke much and top ends are pretty clean. I believe it has fuel stabilizer in it also.
