i made it today in metals class. just 10 gauge steel cut out with a plasma cutter in a circle jig. when i got home, i painted it with truck bedliner.

it only took about thirty minutes to make, i plan on making a couple of more and i might make a dual guard (one on each side of the sprocket)

looks really nice. i would make sure it is balanced nice so that it doesnt make it vibrate at higher speeds. this could also cause premature bearing wear too. i bet it is really close though, if you have a tire balancer you could probably do it on there. steve

i don't think that it weighs enough to make it unbalanced, i've already spun the axle around and it doesn't have a warp or anything in it, straight as an arrow. thanks for the advice steve

you could start making them and sell them. i would consider buying one. you should make a nice setup for the rotor too. just make it mount to the caliper mount. it would be sick. steve

i'm really thinking about making about 10-12 of them if people are interested, this one will work for 40 tooth or smaller. i found a rotor wing off a dirtbike in the trail monday i'm thinking of making it work somehow. lol

maybe not. run it down a road and see if it vibrates at all. it isnt thick enough to mess with most likely but something to consider if you start making thicker ones. I would say a 3/16" one would be really nice. that looks a bit thin at 1/8" and could possibly dent or bend and start to rub on the chain causing it to rub and possibly break the chain if it hits hard enough. I would use a 6061 aluminum that is 3/16" to make it a bit lighter and just about as strong as the steel stuff. steve

that's the next one i'm doing is 3/16" steel, i'll drill holes in it to drop the weight down and make it easier to clean

NICE make sure you post pics of it when you are done. if you have a lathe at school mount it from the middle and clean it up on the outside to make it true all the way around. steve
