I have a 05 Predator 90 that was running fine last fall then all of the sudden it started back firing similar to when you run it in reverse but not quite as bad. I found the thumb throttle mechanism to be binding. I took that apart as well as rebuilt the carb. All looked clean and I got the cable working correctly so I put it back together. The other day my daughter had it out and it ran great, the next day she tried to ride it again and it would not move. It would sit and idle fine but as soon as you try to give it any gas it would stumble. The throttle mechanism is stiff and does not seem to return without manually pulling it back.

Does anyone have any ideas for me to check?

Did you take the top part of the carb apart. If the cable is ok your slide might be sticking. Also take carb apart and make sure there
is nothing stuck in the jets. Check the cable at both ends. I had the throtle stick on my sons and found the end of the cable was fried and piece got wedged between the slide and carb housing.

Try bypassing the thumb throttle safety switch. You will see what I am talking about, there are 2 wires going to the throttle.

don't forget about those nasty clutch torque springs. they can make a bike run bad off idle and you would swear that would not be it. learned from the experience!!

I would assume the clutch springs would only affect it when in gear which is pretty much the problem I am having. I will check that, Thanks.

Thanks for all the help. It turned out to be the throttle mechanism on the thumb throttle. The safety switch tab was bent so it was catching on the housing. I bent it back straight and all is good.
