Hey guys a friend of mine is wanting to trade me, an 06 yfz 450, with a 502 big bore kit in it for my 00 400 ex staight up, only thing is he says that after he put the bbk in it, it kept getting antifreeze in the oil,it is torn down now and he has a new gasket kit for it, but doesnt want to build the engine again, so i would get the engine in a box basically, do u guys think i should trade????

i would personally stay with my nice reliable 400. i knew somebody who bored his yfz and had nothing but problems with it. but it is up to you. others may agree/disagree with me on this one

i would do it just because you can sell the big bore kit and put a stock cylinder on it and have a reliable bike with way more power than the 400. Im not all into 450's but think about the resale value of the 450 over the 400 also,

also if he tore into just the jug and such and its just a top end kit you have to put on (which it sounds like it is since its antifreeze leaking into the oil, sounds like a tore gasket) then id do that in a heart beat.

Personally I'd keep the good ol' reliable 400ex.

i agree, you could turn it back to stock AND profit probably if the piston/cylinder arent beat up

The story i have is that whoever built the 502 kit used the old base and head gaskets, if he did, no wonder it leaks, but could it more serious than just gaskets, like the antifreeze screwing up the rod bearing, or crank bearings?

:eek2: i would be a bit more worried than just the bearing. i would be worried about the integrity of the bore, the clearances fo the ring gap, and craftsmanship if i knew someone reused gaskets there is no telling what could be done to it. :eek2: steve

it SOUNDS like one but id put money on it isnt. Id swap in a heart beat, turn around, sell it and buy one hell of a 400 if thats what kind of quad you want, whats all done to your 400? If its close to stock or stock, then no doubt id jump on it

My ex is completly stock, i would rather have a 450 just because there faster, but im worried that the bbk, will make this 450 very unreliable, i dont ride the ex alot, i have an 07 arctic cat 4X4 that is my main ride, but i dnt want to have to work on this yfz everytime i ride it. lol

then dont, trade for it, fix the gaskets, sell it buy a stock one.

Your always better off buying stock unless you plan to just flip it or part it.

Id sell the big bore kit seperate, enough to pay for a stock jug and piston, put that on there with some decent tires and pull around 3000-3500 for it

i'd say its worth the risk...I still have my 400 but now I moved up to an LTR. Def the best move I made...the 400 may be fun but not enough power for me :macho. In the end man its all up to you depending on what you wanna put into it.

the yfz is like a lamborgini of four wheelers..they are fast as sh** and really expensive to work on...nickel plated cylinder..hollow cam shafts.titanium everything. im an avid yamaha and honda fan, but i wouldnt trade unless i knew for sure it was an easy fix. just my .02
