just got the studs in has anybody done this at home what tap do i etc... all the help i can get on this is appretiated

7/16-14 UNC roll form tap. unless you have a drill press, i would not attempt this at home. also, make sure that you use a high quality tap or you could end up having to buy a new cylinder like i did.

what is a roll form tap and the guy at gtt said 2 holes will go all the way through and yes i do have a drill press

a roll form tap basically forces to the aluminum into threads instead of cutting threads. cold forming increases strength and reduces stress riders.

so in lamens terms a tap and will 2 holes go all the way through thats what the gtt guy said what two will it be

the studs will come with the depth the holes need to be drilled in the instructions. none of them go all the way through, but if your measurements are right on i believe two of them will poke through a little on the other side. and no, its not just a tap. there is a huge difference between how a roll form tap and a regular tap produce threads.

I just bought the same Studs from GTT and wondered the same thing about using a Roll form tap instead of a regular cutting tap.
