i got a used 450 a couple months back but i am just now getting a chance to look at it. i took the hood off of it today and its just a complete mess under there, there are wires running everywhere with some cut and taped up. i am going to get a shop manual sometime but could anyone show me a diagram so i can see what i need and dont need? i am going to race this quad so if theres alot of stuff i dont neeed i will just take it out but im not looking to completly do the "race wireing" where i just take everything out but i would just like to see what goes where and maybe take a couple things off. this quad is a 2008 kicker and runs fine so i think all the wires that are cut i do not need but i would still like to know what is what. the person i bought it off of also raced it but even if he did cut the wires that wernt needed, i would still like to clean it up some.
thanks alot

check out that tread... shows a diagram of the whole system and the bare minimum it needs to run is highlighted... and on the last page shows how to wire a killswitch into that setup

that helped alot too thanks. i have a couple wires that i cant figure out what they are, i think im going to post them up later today or tomorrow to see if you guys know what they are. one has a green and black wire then at the end it has a rubber boot on it. it almost looks like a smaller spark phug boot. im not sure what it is but i dont want to get rid of it just yet. ill get the pics up later on.

the wire with the small boot may be the headlight plug.

Just trying to help
Good luck

ok i got some pictures taken of what i was talking about. the first pic from what i can tell, there are two wires and both wires are black. at the tip of my middle finger is where it plugs in at. that is not a plug at the end of the wires, that is some tape i put on it to keep the wires away from everything. i also have it zip tied together, these wires are around a foot long.

now for the second pic there are two wires, one black and one grey and on the end is the "spark plug like boot" i was talking about but i also have it taped up so no dirt would get inside the boot. my pointer finger is pointing to where these wires are comming from. these are not for the lights because i already have the lights wired up. (the lights are what you see at the top of the second pic) maybe someone on here will know what these go to...

not sure about the first one but i'm pretty positive the second one coming from the red plug is for your temperature warning light...it just lights up if your overheating

i was asking a friend what he thought that the first pic was the rear brake light wires and the second was the temp light like nskukalek79 said. if that is the temp light then i am missing the bulb and the red cover out of it so i guess ill need to get that. any other ideas are welcome  too bad the guy i bought it off of is too busy to come show me whats what

do you have an ignition with a key on the bars or in the front plastics? the second pic def looks like the ignition where your key would go. if you have a keyed ignition somewhere on the bike, then idk what it is

it has a keyed ignition, and everything works on the light switch pod on the handle bars too, plus its a kicker so there really isnt too much more stuff on it. it runs great so i guess i can just finish taking out what is already cut apart, i just hate to do it before i know what im taking out.

after studying the wireing diagram more i think that maybe the second pic is the temp light. i used a test light on the wires and they were hot, so that dosent make sence because if they are always hot then the temp light would always be on. maybe i will double check that though because i cant remember if i checked the wires right when i started it or not. usually when you just start the quad the temp light comes on for a little bit, atleast other quads i have had did.

as for the first pic, i have no idea what that is, i was looking at the diagram and i can find nothing that has two black wires. i put a test light on them to see if they were hot and i couldnt get any power out of them.

thanks for all the help everyone, im slowly figureing this out.

Temp light does come on for a few seconds on the kicker. The second wires look like the brake light switch for the front brake. Plugs in right under the reservoir next to where the lever attaches... Looks like spade connectors.
