I recently started tearing mine down for PCing, some suspension, and some other parts. Sadly I don't have the funds for new plastics. Hopefully this summer I can get a part time job for more new parts, YAY lol. Try to look past how bad the pictures are. I don't have anything other than my phone lol. I'll get pics up as soon as I am able to get them off of my facebook. I'll keep you guys posted on my build, hope you guys like it and I'll probably bug you guys every now and then with questions.

Probably not a whole lot of motor mods, i'll probably stick an xr 400 head gasket in and maybe a sparks key later. But for now some pictures.

OMG you should have cleaned it before you started tearing it down! good luck!

I wish I could've but water and 20 degree weather just don't mix to well lol. Everything is gonna get cleaned really well piece by piece now. Although I would've liked to clean it before I started. Thanks I'll need the luck, I have a manual so hopefully I won't have to many problems.

Looks nice man. Even though the weathers cold you can wait for a warmer day to clean it then keep it in the house overnight.

For the plastics you can wet sand (http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=666479&highlight=little+secret+of+mine) them and they'll look new.

I wouldn't need to do anything other than wet sand them. I though you had to have the plastic renew stuff to do that and make it look better.

I got my ac black line bumper, headstay, and my CCP stabilizer. I'll try to get pics up tonight, pics of the bumper will be a little bit delayed because its at my moms right now.

U have a salamander you should have took it to the carwash and cleaned it prior to the teardown, would have saved you a lot of work, but goodluck with everything keep us posted

Foxhound013

That would've been a good idea, I wish I'd of thought about it before I tore the bike down.

The head stay

For all of you who are saying "WOW, those handguards are trashy" lol don't worry those are one of the first things to go, They're being replace by Moose hanguards, I wanted to get powermadd but the mount kit that wrapped all the way around with the handguards wouldn've been over a 100 dollars. Besides I kinda like these moose ones I have now. I'll try to get pics of the bumper up later. Hopefully I'll be able to get parts in for powdering soon. 450 shocks are the next thing to be put on.

I've got a quick question for you guys, Is PCing the rims stronger than the bed liner or is it the other way around. If the bed liner is what I should go with how should I go about prepping it and what kind should I buy, Thanks.

Does anybody know, I know a few people have done the bed liner but i've never seen anything about Pcing rims vs bedliner on the rims.

I havent read anything about PCing Rims, and Ive heard that Bedliner is a good option, but it starts to chip after awhile.

There was a GREAT article on a different type of painting that I will do soon enough:

http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?threadid=425342

I think the only difference is that this stuff is either more durable, or cheaper.

I might try that but i'm not sure I like the textured part. It sounds like it'll be smart for me to stay away from the bed liner.

if you use the rustoleum hammered liner its a high gloss and looks very nice. is more wave than textured. it wont hold sand like truck bed liner does and its touch shiz i have it on my rims.

I might just go the powdered route because the powdering is all being done by me and my dad. Plus it should be stronger than spray paint.

Looks like you have a decent start on it.. I would just suggest having the rims powdercoated.. There isn't a can paint that will hold up like powder will.. I am in the process of putting my bike back together also.. I might add ebay is your friend, I have got some steals on there for some top end NEW and USED stuff... As far as it going back together, bolts and plugs will only go in one place LOL.. Good luck

Does anyone know if the ball joints on the a-arms can be pressed out, if so do I need to buy replacement ball joints or can they be put back in, Thanks.

exrider12
02-21-2010, 05:02 PM
Sadly the ball joints arent replaceable. If they are worn out you need to replace the whole a arm. Id recommend buying after market +1 arms just for the conveiniance of replacable ball joints.

Foxhound013

This really sucks, that means I can't PC them without getting a whole new set of aftermarket a arms, I guess they're stayin silver. :(

exrider12
02-22-2010, 01:55 PM
you could always just paint them.

Foxhound013
02-22-2010, 02:11 PM
Yeah, I might do that, I just wish I could powder them oh well.

Sorry for keeping everyone waiting, its all done now, I need to get pics loaded tomorrow after school. I might have a set of flexx bars for 60 bucks (I'm waiting for pictures to confirm that they are flexx bars)

Foxhound013
05-17-2010, 06:21 PM
School is still holding me up on getting the pictures to you guys, the flexx bars are a no go. On the bright side I may have a set of kfx 450 shocks coming my way soon. After that I need to get a GT thunder XC rear link and flexx bars. The link is, after shocks, my top priority. Anybody have one they want to sell. Just let me know.

05-17-2010, 07:32 PM
No link but if you are still wanting some plastics I have some black maier race cuts, in great shape bought them in 02 and I think they have been sitting in the barn since about 04.

$100 firm, and I live between indy and crawfordsville.

Foxhound013
05-17-2010, 07:36 PM
I'd like to, but my shocks, link, and bars have to come first.

derekhonda
05-17-2010, 07:57 PM
understandable. I just cleaned out my parents mini barn and forgot they were in there. Worth keeping around for a second pair, but if you change your mind down the road I'll probably still ahve em.
