I replaced my stock crank last winter after the bearing went bad. I did all of the work myself, split the case and replaced bearings, crank, piston, etc. I got the cases back together and the motor runs great with one problem.

The shifting is messed up. It finds nuetral between 2nd and 3rd a lot. Also, it doesn't stay in 5th at all. It just slips down to 4th.

Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

well did you take the mainshaft or countershafts apart??? did you have the washer on that sticks to the bearing on main shaft??

Yeaa could be improperly clearanced gears, worn shift drum, bent/worn forks, improperly placed shift star, worn engagement dogs on gears.....best get a manual if you dont have one and start checking the specs of everything as it says

Yea I figured it would be one of a number of things. I was just hoping there was a common problem that causes this. thanks anyways guys. I don't use 5th gear on my track, so I'm not in a big hurry to rip it apart.
