what is better stage 2 hot cam or hrc cam 4 a 400

Probably the stage 2 considering there isn't an hrc cam for the 400ex.

at one point in time they did have one thats what the people at gt thunder said but they dont them no more

I've heard a couple different theories on the matter. One being the XR cam. I've been running the whitebro's rec cam and love it but they're a bit hard to come by nowdays. I have ridden another ex with the stg 2 and was very comparable to mine. I think you would be happy with a stg 2 even over the xr cam.

thanks for the info i'm starting the new rebuild friday takeing out 416 to put in 426 and xr400 head gasket and shave .20 off the top of the jug and se what happens

It's gonna be a runner! What compression are you going? I'm running an 11:1 wiseco in mine and have been for the past two or three years. It runs great and can run on pump with cooler temps but at the dunes I mix a bit of race gas into the mix to keep it from detonation. Its my ol' reliable for sure.

i will be running 11:1 but with shaving the jug and the xr 400 gasket it will be a true 11:1

The HRC is an excellent cam but you cannot buy a genuine Honda cam anymore. I believe you can get a "HRC copy" cam from XRsonly.com which is just as good. If you contact GT Thunder, I believe their cam for the 400EX has the exact same or very close to the same specs as an HRC cam. They are both good cams, but I believe the HRC cam will be better on power all around the powerband where the stage II Hotcam will be slightly better up top.
