im thinking about buying a 2008 yfz450 tomorrow for 3 grand. the quad is in pretty good condition but the kid kinda seemed like he didnt know a whole lot about it. he said it had a yz426 cam and different gearing. when i asked what the gearing it was, whether it was for more top end or more torque he said top end. however when i rode the bike if felt like the gears were very short and the bike revved out really fast. i want something more smooth so i can stay in each gear without it sounding like its about to blow up. does the bike feel this way because of that cam or do you think he didnt know what he was talking about and the gearing is set up for more torque. or maybe both. he said all the 450s dont top out at very high at all but i used to have a 300ex and his seemed simular to that but with alot more power. somebody please help me out

with the gearing who knows... regardless of what he put in it sprockets are cheap so that is easily fixable...

i would bet by saying he has the 426 cam he meant to say he had the timing retarded to the dirt bike setting...

im honestly not sure he said it had the yz cam and the retarded timing set a coupke other things too i just couldnt understand why it felt like each gear was so short if he had the gearing for more top end

I honestly wouldn't want to buy something from someone who knows so little about what's done to their own quad. I'd check it out with a fine tooth comb before purchasing.

If he really put the YZ426 cams in, then you are not far from a cam chain failure. The 426 had slightly different gears on the cams and a different cam chain.
