I just finished rebuilding my motor for the first time(figured I should learn), I got it all together but it doesnt start. I tore the entire thing down and put an 06 crank, cp 12.5, 98mm piston cylinder works cylinder and did the cam mod. seemed like everything went together good but it wont fire. if I kick it over slow itll backfire pretty loud, and sometimes itll "poof" out of the air box then kick over real easy for a rotation. I tripple checked my timing so Im pretty confident with that. I did not re jet yet. I figured I would get it running so I would have a starting point. ontop of the mods I said I have a K&N filter, no lid, and white bros carbon pro exh. I got my jets from a dynojet kit, DJ132 main, 48 pilot, and 4th clip from the top. Is it my jetting?

check timing, valve lash, all your ignition grounds, your throttle cable to see if its pulled open from incorrect throttle adj.....

re checked my timing, and my grounds, and cables, all good. After 45 min of kicking it finally started to fire! it ran for about 30 seconds then stalled...and as I was kicking I snapped my kicker!:o turns out trying to cut and re weld a kicker to make it shorter was a bad idea.
someone wanna double check make sure im not completely wrong on this?

my buddy just put his back together and is having the same prb. he still has the e start and he can crank it over and after a few sec it will back fire but wont start. he has tore it down 8x and went threw the timing zillion times and still nothing:confused:

only thing he done was put the cylinder works kit on it 98mm and nothing else. something isnt right here, he was thinkin he got shorted a ring for the piston because it only had the oil scraper and 1 compression ring. but said there wasnt another place for another ring to go but said there was a tiny groove between the oil scraper and the compression.

puy your timing back to stock and start from there get it running first. and make sure your valves are set right

Also, you show your timing marks on the cams but where is your flywheel markings in conjunction with those?

Thanks for the replys, I re jetted and a after some persistence and honing in the technique of kicking it fired right up. Starts first kick now.

Did he get a high comp piston? Im not positive but I think the high comps only have one compression ring. Ive heard of the timing key on the flywheel sheering and it throws off the timing, making it misfire. Maybe try that?

my buddy got his running. he timed it on the l-l mark and it fires right up and runs like a beast
