Well, I've been looking for a 450R for a while and just couldn't find anything I liked in my area. I found some completely stock for between 2500-3000, but wanted some add-ons too. So I decided to put my own together. I think I should have between 2500-3000 in it by the time its all done. I have most of the big parts now except the motor, and need some of the small stuff.

I have an 04 frame/subframe, Houser standard travel a-arms, new stock 06+ swinger and linkage, 08 stock shocks revalved, Lonestar axle, etc. I'm waiting for a gusset kit to show up so I can get the frame ready. Then it will be off to powder coat. I'm going to do the frame, hubs, and rear brake stay in candy blue, and the a-arms, swinger, and subframe in yellow. It will be topped with new oem white plastics and black quad tech hood.

Anyways, enough with the chat, here are a couple of crappy phone pics of how it sits right now.

Try to keep up with total price. :chinese: Only thing I'm worried about for you is all those piddley parts that you may not have.

Yeah, I figured that the small parts would add up. I've been trying to find groups of parts I need from the same people that way I can get them to throw in some of the small items needed.

As of right now I have about $1250 in it, and the parts I have are, 04 frame/subframe, complete tank, LSR axle with all hubs, complete rear brake setup, Houser a-arms, 04-05 complete spindle/hub/brakes up front, fan, wheels/tires, 06 swinger and linkage, 08 shocks all around, oil cooler, misc grommets and bolts, and air-box.

My biggest expense will be the engine, depending on what I do of course. I still need plastics, seat, exhaust, stem, nerfs, and bumper. I'm going to have about $200 in p/c as well.

I think I should end up right around the $3000 mark when it's done. Yes I could have bought one ready to ride for that, but this will have everything either new or refinished/rebuilt and look and perform better than what one of the $3000 used ones would do. Plus I have the satisfaction of having it the way I want it.

If anyone has any spare stuff laying around they want to give a good deal on let me know. I'm working this on a budget so engine may be last unless I find a good deal on one that I can rebuild.

There is what sounds to be a nice engine on TRX450R.org (http://www.trx450r.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=85174&hl=). He had it listed for $2500 and just dropped it to $2000, it's a DASA engine.

Just a thought...

so you bought it piece by piece right? thats genious!!! theres enough stock aftermarket parts on here to build 20 bikes pretty cheap. watch ebay very closely. ive seen some worn out motors go pretty cheap lately if you dont mind rebuilding.

Yeah, pretty much one piece at a time. I've been getting some pretty good deals, even on some nice aftermarket stuff, I got a steal on some Houser a-arms on ebay. From what I have gotten so far it seems the way to go is to try and buy a group of parts from each seller, then it's easier to get them to throw in some of the small odds and ends parts that otherwise would nickle and dime you to death. It's been fun so far, and I will have the satisfaction of having it done the way I want it.

Little Update:

I got the gusset kit all welded in yesterday. Today I dropped off a bunch of stuff for powder coat. Frame, spindles, hubs, and rear brake stay are going to be agean blue. Subframe, swing-arm, and a-arms will be zinc yellow. They said it should be 1-2 weeks, so as soon as I get it all back, I'll post some pics!

I think this is going to be one of the cooler builds... Everyone starts with a complete quad and does a tear down...

You don't have to settle for what was already on the bike or some one else's tastes. You can put exactly what you want and tailor build form the get go.

Update:
I got everything back from powder coat, looks pretty good. I'm waiting on my a-arm bushings to come in from Houser then I can get the front end put together. I'll try to get some pics tonight or tomorrow and see what you guys think of the colors.

I finally got a couple pics, they are not the greatest quality, my good camera broke so these will have to do for now.
