I got a little bored, and ive been tossing around the idea of hitting up the utility quad class in the local hare scrambles (even though I have 2 450's, I figure it would be fun). I also have 2 Ranchers, an 05 and an 06, and I only really need 1 workhorse....so I decided to do a bit of race work on the 06.

As far as the body goes, we de-racked it and built new custom fender braces, fabed a new rear grab bar, fabed a new front bumper, and added some graphics to the mix.

At one time, this grab bar was an extra snap-on tool cart handle.

In its previous life, this front bumper was a set of freestyle bicycle handlebars. We also added on some leftover graphics.

After the body work was complete, we went after some power. We built a custom exhaust pipe, which sounds awesome and throaty but still not super loud (tested at 94 db) from a mojave 110,

I ported the head, added a golf ball type port to keep fuel atomazation and keep the low end torque, polished the chamber and unshrouded the valves a bit, and added a 5 angle valve job.

The end result was 16.3 HP and 15.0 ft lbs. Sorry, but I didnt get the stock graph scanned, but on this Mustang Dyno it made 10 HP and 8 ft lbs with the same tires ran today.

Heres a before and after 1/8 mile pull on it though. Even though it only made 6.3 more HP, it really jacked this thing up pretty good. Notice that in stock form, it wont even top out in the 1/8. After mods, it ran the same MPH at the 330 ft mark as it did in the 1/8 (660 ft). It would run faster but its MPH limited at 52 mph, it ran only .1 behind a stock 400 EX on this dyno at the 330 ft mark.

After

After all was said and done, this thing lost about 70 lbs total, gained 6.3 HP, picked up over 2.5 seconds in the 1/8, and best of all....it cost me not one penny.

Next on the list is a set of 22-23 inch XC style tires for the rear, and im gonna measure the shocks to see if I can upgrade with something off a 450R or something of the nature, front and rear.

Ha! Pays to hang on to your junk parts! A garage full of tools, welders, and cyl head equipment doesnt hurt either:D
