Ok i have a 2006 honda 450R and it keeps jumping out of gear durring the race and im loosing holeshots and races because of it. It is happening in 2nd and 3rd and sometimes 4th gear. I talked to Tim Dettling about it and he said it could be the shift forks or it could be rider error and that i am not shifting the quad all the way in to gear and it is getting stuck half way inbetween gears. But i no for a fact it is not me and im pretty positive its not the shift forks. The race season is comming up soon and i need help does anyone know why this is happening? And or have any sugestions or ideas to prevent or fix this problem?

it could be shift drum too or even the shift star. the gears are def messed if its jumping that much . where u live?

ive done a bunch of them and the 06 up always have more tranny damage...

06 and up are prone to shift "dog" wear (engaging fingers on gears)-they get tapered and pull apart on acceleration! Gears will have to come out and any that are burred or tapered will have to be replaced!Good idea to replace shift drum also!

There's washers that takes certain amounts of play out between the gears. The washer breaks and it allows the gear to slide on the shaft and jump. Hard to describe but you can get the idea. Happened to my brother twice on his '06 race bike. Either way, you mide as well start splitting the cases.

if you do do any tranny gears def do all the washers ,snap rings etc. they def wear out on the newer bikes faster 06 up .
just forks (3)and drum r gunna run $200

if i split my customers cases, i prefer to backcut the tranny, ISF and cyro treat the entire assembly including the drum, shafts, forks, thrusts... but typically the meshing of the dogs is the root cause...

yuh like you said chad all that stuff def helps. i wasnt a believer but have seen some now and im a believer now!!!

a full tranny is like 1g foreverything . its alot better to spend the money on treating ,pays for itself easy!!
