I went from a 400ex to a ds650 and it was a great move. The 650 rides great and has alot of power. You wont regret it.

what are you doing with the quad? Tight trails, track, wide open fire roads, dunes, desert ? That would determine if you should or not.
If its tight wooded trails I would personally stay w the 400ex. the other thing to remember is there are tons of parts for the 400ex, not so much for the DS650.
