There isn't much of a difference. On the '04 and '05 models you have to ride with the headlights on in order to charge the battery. You can buy the resistor and fix the problem. I think they are about 40 bucks or so.

I have an 05, no problems. You've got your typical maintanence, you know. But, other than that, I don't have the oiling problem or anything. A stock or lightly modded 05 should run you between $2,000 to $2,500. Provided there's no major damage or anything. Check out the quads on ebay that are nearing the end of thier sale. That should give you a good idea. Or, you might even take a quick peek at your local Craig's List. Good luck.

The chain adjustment on the 04/05 is a pain. The 06+ crank is better than the 04/05 crank from what I've heard. When my 05 was rebuilt they put in an 06 crank. I think it may have been stronger at the wrist pin -- but not absolutely sure.

there were over 80 changes between 05 and 06. The 06 is a lot better bike

The '04 and '05 models are 439cc and the newer ones are 449cc. Not that much of a difference.

04 - 05 are 439cc
06 and up 449cc
06 and up have round carrier swing arm
06 has half the oil mod, 07 has the wrist pin oiler nozzle
04-05 some have charging issues
... etc minor changes were made over the years...
