I was wanting to put crank, high comp. piston, and a hot cam. I stopped at my shop today to get prices. He said with parts and labor to expect about $1000. Is this close or should it be cheaper??? The price is with me taking the motor out and taking it to him. He also said I could run pump gas with a 13.1 piston??? Thanks guys.

If you break it down with labor that is pretty close. I would not recommend running pump gas with 13:1 High Compression Piston.

Just wanted to make sure. Thanks guys..It really doesn't need to be rebuilt just trying to decide if I want to re build or get some powder done.

You could run like 15:1 on pump gas lol the track sells 110 that comes right out of a regular pump :p

your from indaina? go to motoxperts in lafayette, they do awesome work!... they just signed bill balance to their race team if that says anything about their worthiness, they charge a flat rate of $450 for an engine rebuild excluding parts you should be under 1000 when its all said and done and they are awesome guys to deal with!

^I'll have to give them a buzz. Like I said it really doesn't need it. Motor has 40-45 hours on it max. Tax money's just burning a hole im my pocket. I may go ahead and throw the hot came and piston in and if the crank dont have no play let it be.

$250 top end $250 for bottom end rebuild is typical labor charges from 'most' reputable engine builders... :macho

$1000.00 to do crank,piston,cam

$250 crank
$200 piston
$200 cam
----------------
$650 for just parts!!
$100 full gasket kit
----------------
$750 now and u havent touched one bearing or seal or the head!!!!!

$250 for labor NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!

it takes 1.5 hrs to breakdown motor and properlly chk parts over.
i can do motor in 8hrs back together. so a real builder will take say 4 hrs min!!
$$ just dont seem to work to me.. $1500 i think is a good min but really think $2000 plus is usually the safe base

pretty sure motoxperts includes all the gaskets in their $450 complete engine teardown as well as their $180 top end rebuilds

Don't forget dealers/shops get parts much cheaper then we do at retail.
And they're not going to use a whole gasket kit every time. Last time I rebuilt my engine I only needed the center case gasket and head gasket.

I had the same thinking as u at first until I remembered this.
Though still I agree 1000bux is pretty cheap including all those parts, but don't be surprised when it goes over when they find more stuff wrong.

plz dont say thats all you used...

you should replace everything if your in there .some dont but if you are going to a real builder they should replace everything . i know what cost is on stuff . most shops pay 20% above what the dealers are paying. so even the parts for the original posters bike would still be around $350 or so . this would be the only way the $1000 would work. its no secret this is where the builders make there money.

they have businesses and they should make a good wage just like you and me at our jobs. i always tell my customers just because its cheap dont mean its the same job.

When I did that rebuild where I only used 2 new gaskets, my engine only had a few hours on it since the last rebuild where every seal/gasket/bearing in the entire engine was replaced.
So replacing them really would of been a waste, everything came apart perfect.
Its not the same as an engine that's been together for 3 years and every gasket tears apart and everything is old and dry.

Don't see anything about the cylinder head. Is it in good shape? For about $250 more, it could be a big bore.
