im getting my first 450r fourhweeler this weekend probably. im moving up from my old 250 mojave becase the engine is clicking badly and about to blow. i was wandering on the 450r what all maintanance has to be done to it. i heard there was a good bit but i need all the details on everything to do. also, what oil do i buy for the transmission and the engine?
thanks

Hey, the 450R is a great bike. As for maintanance on it, really depends on how much you ride... If your racing it, you'll rebuild it quite a bit more. I have an 07, has70 hours on it (i know because i have a trail tech computer installed) and have just done regular oil changes, and adj valves. I probably do valves every 10-15 hrs, just because its not really that hard to do once you do it a few times and helps keep them fresh. Also have more then one air filter as a dirty air filter is what will really kill your bike! i have 3 filters and i always change them out. And i use the same oil in the tranny and engine, whatever its says in the book its a honda oil, G4 or something? Hope this helps!!

Yes, good chain lube is key for any chain-drive four wheeler, not just the 450r. I'd lube it every couple rides, not only will it spin free'er but its quieter too.

No, buy a motorcycle chain lube.

I recommend Maxima Chain Wax, they also make another clear lube.
Some brands will fling off and make a mess of your bike.
